Volpe and Monnette Win Staring Contests

Level 16 : 2,500/5,000, 1,300 ante

John Monnette opened to 13,000, and Mike Leah called. Out of the big blind, Mike Gorodinsky raised to 50,000, and Monnette called, while Leah folded. Gorodinsky stood pat, and Monnette drew one. Gorodinsky checked, and Monnette shoved for 185,000 effective, as that's what Gorodinsky had left. Gorodinsky folded, and Monnette raked in the pot without showdown.

Over on the other table, Paul Volpe raised to 13,700, and James Chen three-bet to 45,000. Volpe called, and both players drew one, Volpe then checked. Action was on Chen, and both players stared at each other. More than a minute passed, and Chen bet 62,000.

Volpe called, and Chen showed {6-}{6-}{4-}{3-}{2-} for a pair of sixes. Volpe also had a pair with {8-}{7-}{3-}{2-}{2-}, and once again his deuces were good enough to claim a decent pot.
