Hand #159 - Phil Ivey

Eric Buchman has the button. There are two folds before Phil Ivey raises to 1.6 million from middle position. Action passes to small blind Joe Cada, the only player at this final table who has shown much interest in taking Ivey on this afternoon. Cada asks for a count before flipping his cards into the muck. Big blind Antoine Saout follows suit.

Hand #158 - Jeff Shulman

Steve Begleiter has the button. First to act, Jeff Shulman makes it 1.75 million to come along, and Begleiter does just that in position. The blinds fold out of the way, and it's heads up to a flop of {6-Hearts} {3-Clubs} {K-Spades}. Shulman keeps the heat on with a leading bet, and it works. Begleiter surrenders his cards.

Hand #155 - Jeff Shulman

Jeff Shulman has the button. He opens the pot for 1.5 million. Darvin Moon surrenders his small blind without much thought; Phil Ivey takes longer to consider his options in the big blind. More than a minute, in fact, before he calls.

The flop comes {3-Diamonds} {k-Clubs} {A-Diamonds}. Both players waste no time in checking. The turn looks like a blank, {2-Hearts}. Ivey again checks, keeping his remaining 6.4 million chips behind the betting line while waiting for Shulman to act. Shulman settles on a bet of 2.0 million.

It would seem that Ivey can't call here; he has to either raise or fold. He seems genuinely stuck, tanking for more than a minute and a half before choosing the latter of his two options. He folds, preserving ten big blinds in his stack and conceding the pot to Shulman.

Still Seven with 150 Hands in the Books

With over 150 hands in the books it looks as if tonight could be making history for the longest final table in history. Change100 noted that the longest WSOP final table in history was in 2008, where they played 484 hands over 22 hours. They were apparently down to 6 players by hand 53.

Will the pace quicken? Only time will tell.

Hand #153 - Antoine Saout Doubles through Steve Begleiter

Saout looks much happier now, trust us
Saout looks much happier now, trust us
Joe Cada has the button. Steve Begleiter raises to 1.5 million after some early position folds. Antoine Saout is in the small blind and cut outs re-raising chips, making it 4.5 million to go. Once Jeff Shulman is out of the way, Begleiter takes about thirty seconds before calling.

Saout checks the {8-Hearts} {3-Clubs} {9-Hearts} to his opponent, drawing a few raised eyebrows from spectators on the stage. Begleiter ponders that action for a full minute before firing out 6.3 million. It takes Saout less than ten seconds to re-raise all in, for about 21.0 million. Begleiter looks very, very unhappy.

And so into the tank he goes. He seems to be grinding his teeth a bit as he stares down Saout, looking for some indication as to what he's supposed to do. Once the chips are counted down, it's 14.9 million back to Begleiter. Saout is staring at the felt in the same pose he's adopted the whole day, face leaning on his right hand, right elbow using the rail for support.

The theater becomes very, very quiet again. Begleiter is in the tank for two minutes and fifteen seconds before he calls for a huge pot!

Begleiter: {8-Clubs} {7-Clubs}
Saout: {A-Hearts} {K-Hearts}

Wow, it's a very gutsy call by Begleiter for a monster pot. He gave a short fist-pump when he saw Saout's hand, but this one is anything but decided. Saout has two overcards and the nut flush draw for 15 outs against Begleiter's one pair. The crowd goes bonkers when a heart comes in on the turn, {10-Hearts}, giving Saout the nuts and an unbeatable hand. The {K-Clubs} on the river is just an added insult for Begleiter.

The Frenchman's supporters are suddenly very vocal, chanting "Saout! Saout! Saout!" Begleiter's fans on the stage try to give him a pick-me-up with their patented "BEGS! BEGS! BEGS!" chant but it's drowned out by the jubilant French.

New counts:

Antoine Saout - 52.7 million
Steve Begleiter - 18.4 million
