The Rise of Berko

Level 20 : Blinds 10,000/20,000, 20,000 ante
Scott Berko
Scott Berko

Scott Berko amassed a gigantic stack in two hands at the tail end of the previous level, and he stopped by the PokerNews desk to tell how it happened.

In the first hand, Berko raised to 35,000 from under the gun with 76 and the big blind called. The flop came down K54 with a combo draw for Berko. The big blind checked and Berko continuation-bet for 50,000. The big blind called and the 2 turn was dealt.

Berko now bet another 90,000 with his flush after a check from the big blind. Berko then faced a big check-raise to 395,000, which he just flat-called.

The Q river fell and the big blind now jammed, covering Berko's stack of 850,000 chips. Berko allegedly tanked for nearly six minutes before ultimately putting in the call. The big blind showed A5 for a big bluff and Berko's flush scooped a pot to rocket him over the three million mark.

Not much later, Berko was in the big blind himself and faced a raise to 50,000 from the same player, who sat in the small blind this time. Berko called and the flop fell Q103.

The small blind continued for 110,000 and Berko called. The Q turn saw the big blind bet another 260,000, leaving around 500,000 behind. Berko jammed all in with the covering stack and the small blind called.

Small blind: J9
Scott Berko: 33

Berko had flopped a set and turned a full house, while the small blind only had two outs to a straight flush. Neither of them arrived on the 4 river and Berko eliminated his rival and shot up a stack of 4,000,000 chips.

Aziz Eliminated by Rigby

Level 20 : Blinds 10,000/20,000, 20,000 ante
Nicholas Rigby
Nicholas Rigby

Renan Aziz raised with the 55 and Nicholas Rigby called from one seat over with the K4, Jordan Grant defended with just the A showing. On a flop of 632, Grant check-folded when Aziz bet 45,000 and Rigby raised to 225,000.

Aziz gave it some thought before pushing all-in for 410,000 and Rigby instantly asked for a count. He then made the call with five imminent outs to put Aziz at risk.

The K struck on the turn to improve Rigby and Aziz was eliminated on the blank A river.

Seymour Scores Double Elimination

Level 20 : Blinds 10,000/20,000, 20,000 ante
Richard Seymour
Richard Seymour

Brad Anderson moved all in from under the gun for 200,000, and it folded to Richard Seymour in the hijack who made the call. Andrew Wu moved all in for 345,000 total on the button, and the action was back on Seymour, who went deep in the tank.

After much consideration, Seymour reluctantly tossed in the extra 145,000, and the cards were on their backs.

Brad Anderson: 109
Andrew Wu: AK
Richard Seymour: KQ

Wu was in the lead preflop, but the tables turned when the flop came 1053 to give Anderson top pair and a flush draw. The Q turn improved Anderson to a flush.

However, when the river fell the 6, it was the fourth heart that scored Seymour a bigger flush to send both Wu and Anderson to the payout desk.

Brewer's Big Slick No Good

Level 20 : Blinds 10,000/20,000, 20,000 ante
Chris Brewer
Chris Brewer

Chris Brewer raised to 40,000 from early position, and Daniel Dzian made the call from the button. Todd Collins also came along from the big blind, and together they saw a flop of 102Q being dealt.

Collins checked before Brewer made a continuation bet for 35,000. Dzian then raised to 100,000, and Collins got out of the way. Brewer thought for a bit before eventually making the call.

The turn of 9 then saw Brewer check, and Dzian bet another 100,000. This time, it was Brewer who came out raising, making it 290,000 to go. Dzian stuck around with a call, and the 7 was subsequently checked by both players.

Brewer sighed and showed AK for just ace-high, while Dzian showed down KQ for a pair of queens and the winner. Brewer was left with around 20 big blinds, while Dzian chipped up to over 80.

Chiu Needs Some Time

Level 20 : Blinds 10,000/20,000, 20,000 ante
Charlie Chiu
Charlie Chiu

Michael Duek raised from the hijack for 40,000 and Charlie Chiu was the only one to make the call from the big blind. The flop fanned out 9810 and Chiu check-raised a 40,000 continuation bet from Duek to 150,000. Duek put in the extra chips and the pair saw the J turn being dealt.

Chiu reverted to a check and Duek took the opportunity to bet for 300,000 chips. Chiu called, and the 2 river rolled off.

Chiu checked again, and Duek doubled his bet to 600,000. This sent Chiu into a tank that lasted several minutes, apologizing to his tablemates a few times while he thought things over.

Eventually, he settled on a fold, granting the pot to Duek. "It's really, really close," Chiu concluded.

Ups and Downs for Kornuth

Level 20 : Blinds 10,000/20,000, 20,000 ante
Chance Kornuth
Chance Kornuth

On the first hand, the board showed Q7J10 when Masato Yokosawa checked and decoded to call a bet worth 340,000 from Chance Kornuth seated on the button.

The 9 landed on the river and they both checked. Kornuth tabled A8 for the straight and Yokosawa mucked his cards.

The hand after, Kornuth raised in the cutoff to 45,000, and the button called. Michael Banducci three-bet to 210,000 in the big blind, Kornuth replied with a four-bet to 445,000 and the button got out of the way.

Banducci tanked for a minute and five-bet to 860,000. After some thought, Kornuth let it go.

Bertrand ElkY Grospellier
Bertrand ElkY Grospellier

With Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier's seat empty, his former table recounted his bust house hand.

Grospellier was short-stacked for most of the remaining level and eventually moved all in for his remaining chips from the cutoff. Adam Grovenstein in the big blind called.

Bertrand Grospellier: AQ
Adam Grovenstein: 8x8x

The board ran out with no help for Grospellier. The pocket eights of Grovenstein held and "ElkY" was sent to the rail.

Run it Twice?

Level 20 : Blinds 10,000/20,000, 20,000 ante
Bill Klein
Bill Klein

A player opened to 50,000 in early position before Joe Hachem three-bet to 150,000. Bill Klein four-bet all-in from the small blind for 605,000, forcing the original raiser out and Hachem snap-called.

"Run it twice?" asked Bill Klein as both hands were tossed on their backs.

Bill Klein: 88
Joe Hachem: AK

It was the classic coin flip as the board ran out 95474, for Klein's eights to hold, and the dealer refused to run it a second time.
