Heads-up to the J♥8♥4♦A♥ turn, Joaquin Beretta checked and then called a bet worth 8,000 by Leon Sturm on the button. The 6♥ fell on the river and Sturm opted to check behind. Beretta revealed his K♥Q♠ for the nut flush and Sturm mucked.
Hao Liu moved all in for the last 10,000 and he was isolated by Xulong Zhang, who pushed all in over the top.
Hao Liu: 2♥2♠
Xulong Zhang: K♦K♥
The Q♥5♠2♣8♥A♠ board gave Liu a set of deuces and Zhang grabbed out his phone to take a picture, then reiterated what a bad day it had been for him so far.
"At least it was only against a short stack for ten thousand," another player at the table remarked.
Max Pescatori was in early position and was contesting a 5,000 pot against Jose Jaraiz in the next seat over. Pescatori bet out for 2,000 on the 2♥7♥10♥ flop and received a call from Jaraiz.
The 6♦ turn was then dealt and Pescatori slowed down with a check. Jaraiz took the opportunity to bet 6,000 chips and Pescatori quickly folded.
Meanwhile, Humberto Brenes is also sitting at this table and has increased his stack by a few big blinds since the start of play.
Down to 10,000 chips, Daniel Negreanu defended his big blind after a player in middle position opened to 1,800.
On Q♣Q♠Q♥, the player in middle position continued with a bet of 1,600, and Negreanu called.
Then on the turn 5♠, the player in middle position put his pile of red chips in front of him to force Negreanu to go all in. But the Canadian didn't.
On the very next hand, the button opened to 1,600, and Negreanu moved all in with his remaining 7,600 chips. The button took a moment to think about his decision but eventually folded.
The action folded to Lautaro Guerra on the button who opened for 1,800 and only Andrew Mackenzie made the call in the small blind.
The flop came 10♠8♠4♠ and Mackenzie checked to Guerra who continued for 1,500. Mackenzie put in a check-raise to 3,500 and Guerra took a few seconds before letting his cards go.
Adrian Mateos was down to his last 1,200 and shoved all in from early position. The player to his direct left called, as did Elaine Luo in the small blind and the player in the big blind.
With a potential quadruple-up pending for Mateos, the hand checked down to the river as the full board read A♣2♥9♠6♠9♣.
Elaine Luo in the small blind led out for 3,000 and all remaining players folded.
Adrian Mateos: J♥8♦
Elaine Luo: A♥8♥
Mateos was sent to the rail but still found time to take a selfie with Luo before he left.
"We have a big one brewing here," a tablemate said as Robert Kessler, Quincy Borland, and Krzysztof Mielnik built a pot of around 45,000 on the 3♠5♦K♦ flop.
Mielnik, on the button, bet 15,000 before Kessler tossed in 75,000 from early position. Borland tanked for several minutes before he folded, while Mielnik took his time before joining him in the muck.
The next hand at this table, Freddy Deeb bet 4,000 on a flop of 3♦3♠7♠ before Mielnik raised to 10,000. Tinay Aksoy, in the small blind, then moved all in for 55,000.
Deeb quickly folded, but Milenik went into the tank for another few minutes before he again folded.
Josh Arieh raised to 2,100 in early position and was called by Daniel Ott in the hijack and Aaron Frei in the small blind. The flop came 10♦9♦8♠ and Arieh continued with a bet of 3,500. Ott quickly folded but Frei check-raised to 11,000 which Arieh called.
The turn brought the 4♦ and Frei checked again. Arieh counted out a bet of 13,000 and Frei stuck around for the K♣ on the river. Frei checked once more and Arieh reluctantly checked it back. "I can't believe I'm checking this," Arieh said.
"You're the luckiest player in the game," Frei said as he revealed Q♠J♠ for a straight. "You probably have a flush."
"I'm the luckiest player in the game?" Arieh questioned as he sheepishly mucked his cards.
Frei continued to ramble about how many more chips he should have won and how the hand played out while he collected the pot.
