Tough Call for Da Costa

Level 9 : Blinds 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

Three players saw the QJ4 flop for 4,000 a piece and the action checked through to the 5 turn.

Once checked to, Forian Da Costa put out a bet of 3,500, and only the button called.

The 3 completed the board, and Da Costa checked before the button put out a bet of 23,000. Da Costa tanked for about a minute and dropped the chips to call.

The button looked disappointed as he tabled A1096 and Da Costa took it down when he showed 8653 for two pair.

"Wow, that was a hero call," Said a table mate as Da Costa dragged the pot.

Makkar Gets One Through?

Level 9 : Blinds 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

Daniel Negreanu raised to 3,000 in middle position and was called by Rishi Makkar, directly to his left. The player in the high jack then squeezed to 11,000. It appeared that the dealer pulled in the blinds, as Negreanu called out of turn before realizing that the player in the blind was still debating their decision. It's possible Negreanu's mistake affected the blind's decision, as he eventually settled on a call.

Negreanu called officially now, as did the player to his left. Four ways to a flop they saw 84J. All players checked.

The turn brought the 8 and the small blind checked, as did Negreanu, Makkar then led out for 10,500 and got folds from the table. After they had all mucked, Makkar showed AxJx10x10x with no spades, baffling his opponents.

Double Elimination for Taylor

Level 10 : Blinds 1,000/1,500, 1,500 ante
Esther Taylor
Esther Taylor

Calvin Anderson raised in early position before Jonathan Hutson three-bet to 17,500. Esther Taylor was in the big blind and called as did Anderson.

As soon as the flop came KJ8, Taylor pushed her entire stack of 44,500 across the line. Anderson called off his remaining 38,000 and Hutson called for 44,000.

Calvin Anderson: AK54
Esther Taylor: KJ109
Jonathan Hutson: A1097

All three players connected with the board as Hutson flopped a wrap, Anderson flopped top pair nut flush draw and Taylor flopped two pair, open-ended and a smaller flush draw.

The 5 turn and 2 river were bricks as Taylor's two pair held to scoop the pot and eliminate both opponents.

Habegger Rivers Two Pair

Level 10 : Blinds 1,000/1,500, 1,500 ante
Fernando Habegger
Fernando Habegger

Fernando 'JNandez' Habegger raised in middle position to 4,000 and the button called before Kenny Hallaert mucked the small blind and Christopher Lee folded in the big blind.

The dealer fanned a flop of K83 and Habegger continued for 8,000 which was called.

When the A hit the turn, Habegger fired again, this time for 16,000, and was called once again.

The 9 completed the board on the river and Habegger slowed down, checking this time and his opponent hesitated before checking back.

Habegger announced two pair as he tabled 9876 and his opponent mucked his hand.

Chan Busts Before Break

Level 10 : Blinds 1,000/1,500, 1,500 ante

Johnny Chan was spotted in the field just before the break, but upon returning from dinner he'd been replaced by someone else.

The dealer at the table was kind enough to let us know that he had one-outed Chan on the river.

Chan had flopped bottom set against the nut flush and when the board paired, the entire table thought the river would be a formality. When the river came, however, it upgraded the players flush to a straight flush and the table realized what happened when the dealer presented the winning hand.

Chan is expected to have been one of the last players in the late registration line but it has yet to be confirmed if he's back in the field.
