Day 2 of Event #21: $1,000 Pot Limit Omaha 8-Handed Begins at Noon

Dylan Weisman

Day 1 of Event #21: $1,000 Pot Limit Omaha 8-Handed saw a field of 2,017 entries dwindled down to the last 117 competitors. They'll return today at noon to the Horseshoe Event Center to vie for the lion's share of the $1,795,130 prize pool. The eventual winner will collect $267,991 and the luscious gold WSOP bracelet, but that will not be determined until Day 3 Saturday.

Suk Bang bagged the chip lead, which is worth nearly 150 big blinds, and was followed by Ido Aboudithe, who was the only other player who bagged over a million with roughly 100 big blinds. There will be plenty of other notables with a chance at a run including former WSOP Player of the Year winners, Josh Arieh and Daniel Negreanu.

There are also a couple of Pot Limit Omaha coaches in the form of Dylan Weisman and Fernando "Jnandez" Habegger who both bagged decent stacks; this is Weisman's third year bagging this tournament, having won it in 2021. Habegger is fresh off a runner up in the $5,000 NLH/PLO Mix last week. David Williams also bagged a decent stack, he bagged last year but the final table eluded him.

Keep it tuned to PokerNews all summer long for up-to-date coverage of this and all bracelet events here at the 2023 World Series of Poker!

Dentale Pots the Turn

Level 18 : Blinds 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante

Dylan Weisman raised to 28,000 from early position, finding calls from Michael Dentale in the cutoff and Jay Kerbel in the big blind.

Kerbel checked the K63 flop, with Weisman continuing for 25,000. Dentale then raised the pot to 174,000, producing a quick fold from Kerbel.

Weisman took some time before mucking his hand, as Dentale took down an early pot.

Habegger Chips Up

Level 18 : Blinds 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante

Lawrence Brandt raised it to 25,000 when it folded to him on the button. Only Fernando Habegger in the big blind made the call.

The flop came out 9J2 and both players checked. The turn brought the A and Habegger checked. Brandt then bet 35,000, which was called.

The river brought in the Q and Habegger took some time before cutting out a bet of 130,000. Brandt tossed his hand in the muck and Habegger scoop a pot, moving up in the counts.

Negreanu Moves From PLO to Hold-Em

Level 18 : Blinds 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante
Daniel Negreanu
Daniel Negreanu

Cards were on their backs and Daniel Negreanu had his camera out, sweating both his opponents' cards and how they affected his outs.

Daniel Negreanu: KQQ2
Will Berry: A968
Nicolas Gola: KQ22

Gola was the only one with a hefty stack and put both his opponents at risk. The flop ran out K6J putting Gola and Negreanu ahead with the same made hand. The A on the turn was a dagger to both of them as Berry now took the lead. An inconsequential 7 fell on the river.

Berry found a triple up and Negreanu was left chopping a measly pot with Gola; this left Negreanu with only 16,000 chips. He did fold a few hands before getting it in three ways shortly after but to no avail.

Negreanu was in a hurry to get his pay out, as he intends on registering the $10,000 Limit Hold'em event that's going on today. This is a variant he has years of experience in and, as always, we'll have to keep an eye on him to catch his next deep run.
