After a few players limped in, Brian Frenzel moved all in for 10,500 from the button. Joe Tsung reraised from late position to isolate, and all other players folded.
Button: A♦5♣
Joe Tsung: A♣J♣
The board came out Q♦K♣K♠8♦3♥, giving Tsung the win and eliminating Frenzel.
Players have been sent on a 30-minute break as tournament staff race off the purple 500-value chips. When play resumes, the late registration period will have ended.
Players have resumed play, which also signals the end of late registration. The tournament clock currently shows 3,961 entrants, although tournament staff is now working on finalizing the data. Final numbers will be announced here as they become available.
Jose Obadia moved all in from the cutoff for 54,000. The small blind then went all in for slightly less.
Small Blind: A♣K♣
Obadia: Q♦3♦
Obadia was behind, and continued to trail on the 6♠A♦3♣ flop. The 7♦ on the turn moved him one diamond away from a flush which came when the K♦ hit the river.
There was a middle position open to 7,000 and action folded to Michael Lipton in the small blind who three bet to 20,000. The original raiser flat called and they went to a flop.
The Ax2x5x flop hit the felt and Lipton lead right out for 15,000. Lipton's opponent smooth called again.
The 6x hit the turn and Lipton again lead out for 25,000. Once again the opponent just smooth called.
The river was 9x and Lipton did not waste any time before jamming all in. His opponent didn't need to think long before putting in the chips for his tournament life.
Michael Lipton: Ax6x for a turned two pair.
The opponent: AxQx for top pair.
Lipton made a kind gesture to say good game and extend a fist bump to the player that was knocked out. This didn't go as planned as the player smacked Lipton's hand out of the way before storming off to likely find a registration line. Lipton, on the other hand, was all smiles as he dragged a big pot late in day one.
Sayoko Matsumoto bet 15,000 on a flop of 4♣5♦5♣ from the small blind. Emil Block called from the big blind. The player in the cutoff then reraised all in for 44,000. Both Matsumoto and Block called.
The 2♥ turn and 9♦ river brought only checks from the two players with chips remaining. The cutoff showed J♦J♠ and Block turned over 10♠10♣. Matsumoto then revealed A♠A♦ to take down the huge pot, eliminating her opponent in the cutoff.
Haven Werner opened to 8,000 and then action folded around to the player on the button who jammed for 57,000 total. The rest of the players got out of the way and it was back to Werner, who looked into the void for a few seconds as she pondered her decision.
She then flicked in a chip to put her opponent at risk, and the race was on.
Button Player: K♠J♠
Haven Werner: A♦10♠
The board ran out 4♠Q♦5♦A♥5♣ to pair Werner's ace on the turn to win her the pot and eliminated her opponent in the process. She is now sitting at 205,000 and is one of the more formidable stacks in the room.
