Welcome to the 2022 WSOP $10,000 Pot-Limit Omaha 8-Handed Championship
The 2022 World Series of Poker in its new home at Bally’s and Paris Las Vegas is gearing up for the crown jewel of the schedule as the 2022 WSOP $10,000 Main Event is just around the corner. However, nearly two dozen gold bracelets are still up for grabs and mixed game enthusiasts still have plenty of opportunities to showcase their talents.
With strong turnouts for all four-card poker events during the 2022 WSOP so far, it would be no surprise to see another big field emerge in Event #69: $10,000 Pot-Limit Omaha 8-Handed Championship. The Main Event of all PLO specialists is slated to get underway at 3 p.m. local time in the Paris Ballroom and Tommy Le will aim to defend his title.
As one of the most successful PLO tournament players in WSOP history, Le has eight official final table appearances and one unofficial final table to his name. He won the $10,000 Pot-Limit Omaha 8-Handed Championship in 2021 and 2017 while also finishing third in the very same event back in 2016 as well. One year ago, Le topped a field of 344 entries after defeating Jordan Spurlin in heads-up while Chris Sandrock finished in third place.
Le has not seen similar results this year and has just one in-the-money finish to his name in Event #64: $600 Pot-Limit Omaha Deepstack (8-Handed), in which he finished in 47th place. However, it seems all but certain that the PLO specialist will be back in action today in order to try to defend his title.
The four-day tournament features a starting stack of 60,000 and all levels last 60 minutes each. A total of ten levels are scheduled for Day 1 with a break every two levels and late registration will close at the start of Level 11 at 2 p.m. local time on Sunday, July 3rd.
As with all PLO tournaments during the series, a single big blind ante is posted. In Pot-Limit, the ante only counts as part of the pot “after the flop". All contestants in their seats right from the start will have 300 big blinds at their disposal at 100-200 blinds while last-minute additions on Day 2 will start their journey with 24 big blinds at 1,000-2,500.
Among the PLO bracelet winners during the 2022 WSOP so far were familiar names such as Phil Hui, Eli Elezra, Konstantin Angelov, Fabian Brandes, Daniel Weinman, Robert Cowen, Tong Li, current WSOP Player of the Year leader Daniel Zack, and Amnon Filippi. Most of them along with PLO specialists from all over the world are expected to take part in this high-stakes contest which may very well surpass 500 entries.
