Welcome to Day 1 of Event #44: $10,000 H.O.R.S.E. Championship
The 2022 WSOP in its new home at Bally’s and Paris Las Vegas is in full swing and the start of the fourth week of the series brings with it one of the most-decorated mixed game contests.
Some of the biggest names in the international poker scene are expected to enter the fray when Event #44: $10,000 H.O.R.S.E. Championship gets underway at 3 p.m. local time. The tournament will also be the perfect opportunity for many to showcase their mixed game skills ahead of the crown jewel on the schedule, the $50,000 Poker Players Championship.
Defending champion of the event is American mixed-game specialist Kevin Gerhart, who won his third career gold bracelet after outlasting a field of 149 entries and defeating Marco Johnson in heads-up play. Both earned the biggest slices of the $1,389,425 prize pool in 2021 with Gerhart taking home $361,124 for his efforts. He then added a fourth WSOP gold bracelet to his collection later in the series at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino.
Other H.O.R.S.E. winners of previous years such as Jesse Klein, Anthony Zinno, and Jim Collopy are expected among the entries. The only H.O.R.S.E. competition during the 2022 WSOP so far was won by music producer Steve Albini, who claimed his second gold bracelet in Event #32: $1,500 H.O.R.S.E. a few days ago.
The field will play through a five-game rotation throughout the tournament including Limit Hold'em, Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better, Razz, Seven Card Stud, and Seven Card Stud Hi-Lo 8 or Better.
All players receive 60,000 in chips to start and they will play ten 60-minute levels on Day 1. There will be a 15-minute break every two levels and the action is set to conclude around 2 a.m. local time. Registration remains open until the start of play on Day 2, scheduled for Tuesday, June 21st at 2:00 p.m. PDT.
