Cautious Play Continues Despite Attractive Boards

Level 31

Peder Berge: {x-}{x-}/{3-Clubs}{5-Spades}{6-Spades}
John Hoang: {x-}{x-}/{6-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}
Jermaine Reid: {x-}{x-}/{8-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}

Action on third street saw Peder Berge bring in and the other two players limp behind. As each player caught another low card on fourth street, the players all checked.

On fifth street with his eight-high being awarded the betting lead, Reid put forward a bet of 240,000... and his opponents folded.

Finally Fifth Street

Level 31

Jermaine Reid: {x-}{x-}/{6-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}
Peder Berge: {x-}{x-}/{7-Clubs}{q-Hearts}{j-Hearts} - folded

Peder Berge completed and was called by Jermaine Reid. Reid led out on fourth street and Berge called. Reid bet again on fifth, and this time Berge folded.

This was the first pot to reach fifth street in quite some time. All three players are content to keep the pots small, with most going uncontested on third street.

Back and Forth They Go

Level 31

With the limits now at 120,000 and 240,000, the last several pots between the players have been of the smaller variety, with none even reaching the big bet rounds.

"Complete and take it" has been a quite regular occurrence, as the players have not been getting out of line and protecting their stacks.

Reid's Two Pair Is Best

Level 31

Jermaine Reid: {x-}{x-}/{4-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{6-Hearts}/{x-}
John Hoang: {x-}{x-}/{3-Diamonds}{j-Spades}{10-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}/{x-}

Jermaine Reid went heads-up to fifth street with John Hoang and called a bet. Reid led out on sixth and seventh and Hoang called.

"Two pair," Reid said, turning over {6-Spades}{4-Spades}{q-Hearts} for sixes and fours.

Hoang shot back in his chair in frustration before tossing his cards back to the dealer.

Hoang Solidifies His Standing

Level 31

After Peder Berge brought in with the {9-Hearts}, John Hoang completed with the {q-Hearts} and was called by Jermaine Reid with the {k-Spades}. Berge folded to leave the other two to battle.

Reid had the betting lead and used it on fourth and fifth streets, where he was called by Hoang.

Hoang's board made a better king-high on sixth street, and he took over the betting lead. Reid called, and then faced one more bet from Hoang on seventh.

John Hoang: {x-}{x-}/{q-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}/{x-}
Jermaine Reid: {x-}{x-}/{k-Spades}{2-Spades}{6-Hearts}{j-Hearts}/{x-}

The final bet was one that Reid could not call, leaving Hoang to drag the large pot, and putting himself firmly on the short stack with now just about four big bets.

Berge In Control

Level 30

Peder Berge: {x-}{x-}/{5-Clubs}{3-Spades}{9-Clubs}{8-Hearts}/{x-}
Jermaine Reid: {x-}{x-}/{a-Hearts}{2-Spades}{q-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}/{x-}

Jermaine Reid bet on fifth street and Peder Berge called. Reid put in another bet on sixth and Berge called to see seventh street.

Reid bet again before Berge came back with a raise. "I knew I didn't want this card," Reid said as he began to laugh. He eventually called with {a-Spades}{4-Clubs}{6-Hearts} for two pair, but Berge showed {5-Diamonds}{a-Diamonds}{5-Spades} for a set of fives.

"Ouch," Reid said as he handed over the pot.

John Monnette Eliminated in 4th Place ($33,734)

Level 30
John Monnette
John Monnette

John Monnette: {x-}{x-}/{4-Clubs}{k-Spades}{8-Spades}
Peder Berge: {x-}{x-}/{3-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}
John Hoang: {x-}{x-}/{3-Spades}{8-Clubs}{q-Hearts} - folded

John Hoang completed, John Monnette raised, and Peder Berge called. Hoang also called. On fourth street, Berge bet, Hoang raised, and Monnette called all in for 295,000.

Monnette once again complained that the dealer was counting the pots incorrectly. "It's like we're playing for play money," he said heading to fifth.

Berge bet and Hoang folded, leaving Berge and Monnette heads-up. Berge turned up {5-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds} for a pair of sixes, while Monnette was drawing with {a-Spades}{5-Spades}.

Berge made two pair with {a-Clubs}{a-Diamonds}, while Monnette didn't improve with {j-Diamonds}{k-Hearts} and left the table in a hurry. He was still in discussion with the tournament floor about the dealing several minutes later.
