Hands #21-23: Maahs and Gates Win Three-Bet Pots

Level 37 : 500,000/1,000,000, 1,000,000 ante

Hand #21: First to act, Hossein Ensan raised to 2,200,000 and Kevin Maahs three-bet to 5,500,000 from the cutoff. Ensan gave it some thought and tossed in calling chips to see the {7-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} flop. Ensan checked and Maahs cut out a bet of 9,800,000, nearly half of his remaining stack.

Ensan folded and Maahs scooped the pot without a showdown.

Hand #22: Zhen Cai made it 2,800,000 to go from the cutoff and Garry Gates three-bet to 7,200,000 on the button. Cai sent his cards into the muck and the Gates rail erupted in applause.

Hand #23: Cai opened to 2,500,000 in the hijack and scooped the blinds and antes.

Alex Livingston

Hand #14: Kevin Maahs joined the final table action with a raise to 2,200,000 and Alex Livingston called from the big blind to see the {10-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{5-Diamonds} flop. Both opted to check and the {7-Hearts} fell on the turn, on which Livingston bet 2,500,000. Maahs made the call and the {6-Clubs} appeared on the river.

Livingston now bet 1,000,000 and Maahs reluctantly folded to let the Canadian rail celebrate.

Hand #15: Zhan Cai raised to 2,800,000 in the cutoff and Hossein Ensan three-bet to 8,700,000 from the big blind. Cai folded and the German rail shouted "Hossein Hossein Hossein."

Hand #16: Livingston opened to 2,500,000 on the button and Nick Marchington defended the big blind to the {j-Spades}{9-Clubs}{5-Hearts} flop. Both players quickly opted to check and see the {k-Spades} turn, which was checked through once more. On the {j-Hearts} river, Marchington checked and faced a bet of 2,000,000, no call followed.

Hand #12: Nick Marchington opened for 2.2 million in the cutoff. Dario Sammartino three-bet to 6.5 million on his left. The blinds folded and Marchington gave it up.

Hand #13: Marchington opened for 2.2 million again and Garry Gates defended the big blind and {4-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{7-Hearts} flopped. They checked the coordinated texture, bringing a {q-Clubs}. Gates came out betting with 3.3 million and Marchington went nowhere. The river was a {2-Clubs}. Gates barreled again for 9.5 million.

Marchington called after about 15 seconds but couldn't show down anything to compete with {8-Spades}{5-Spades} for a flopped straight.

Timothy Su Eliminated in 8th Place ($1,250,000)

Level 37 : 500,000/1,000,000, 1,000,000 ante
Timothy Su
Timothy Su

Hand #11: Timothy Su open-shoved for 17,700,000 first to act and Zhen Cai from one seat over asked for a count. Cai went into the think tank and folded, however, it was Hossein Ensan that made the call in the cutoff.

Timothy Su: {3-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}
Hossein Ensan: {a-Diamonds}{j-Spades}

The {j-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{5-Diamonds} flop improved Ensan to jacks and fives to let the German rail celebrate. Nothing changed with the {10-Spades} turn and the {j-Diamonds} river further improved Ensan to a full house.

Su had lost a big pot to Ensan on Day 7 to go from one of the chip leaders to short stack and his nemesis would deal the final blow 11 hands into the final table to send Su to the rail in 8th place for $1,250,000.
