River Ace Sinks Mefodichev

Gaelle Baumann had opened for a raise from middle position, and when it folded to Vladimir Mefodichev on the button he checked his cards, then declared he was all in. The blinds folded, and once a count determined the raise was to 415,000, Baumann quickly called.

Mefodichev: {Q-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}
Baumann: {A-Hearts}{Q-Spades}

Mefodichev stood at his seat to watch the community cards come while Baumann remained seated. The flop came {6-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}. The turn was the {7-Clubs} and Mefodichev was still good. But the river brought the {A-Spades} and "ooohs" from the players and those watching. Baumann had paired her ace, meaning the Russian's WSOP Main Event run had ended. Mefodichev kept smiling, though, leaning over to shake Baumann's hand and wishing everyone good luck before leaving.

Baumann continues her rise here on Day 5, and with about 125 players left she continues to hold onto a spot near the top of the counts.

Controversy On Gold Table 3

We just had an interesting situation arise over in the gold section of feature tables between Taylor Paur and Joseph Cheong. Action started with Paur raising on the button to 50,000. Cheong called in the small blind, and Scott Anderson called from the big blind.

The flop came down {a-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{7-Spades}, and all three players checked. The turn brought the {3-Hearts}, and Cheong fired out 72,000. Anders folded, but Paur came along. The river brought the {5-Hearts}, and here's where things get interesting.

Cheong checked quickly and quietly, and Paur asked "did you check?" However, all that Cheong and the dealer heard was the word "check", and Cheong quickly turned over his hand, {k-Spades}{10-Spades} for a pair of tens. Paur was confused, and claimed again that he simply asked if Cheong checked. The floor was called over, and after the situation was explained to her, she called for another floor to help with the decision. Paur stuck to his claim that he asked the question, and said that the dealer was looking at Cheong like it was still on him.

Cheong remained quiet throughout the situation, sticking by his claim that all he heard was check. As the second floor was called, Paur said "it's fine it's fine" but the floor was already on his way. The second floor ruled that he had to be careful with his verbage, and said it would just be a check for now. Paur seemed fine with the ruling, and tabled {10-Clubs}{3-Diamonds} for two pair to claim the pot.

After that hand, Paur is up to 2.8 million, while Cheong has slipped down to 1.6 million.

Buckenmayer Finds a Double Against Hille

From the button, Ben Greenberg raised to 50,000. Robert Buckenmayer moved all in from the small blind for 447,000. Elisabeth Hille moved all in from the big blind for around 3.8 million and Greenberg folded.

Buckenmayer showed the {A-Clubs}{2-Spades} and Hille held the {10-Spades}{10-Hearts}. The flop, turn and river ran out {A-Spades}{5-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{Q-Clubs}{Q-Hearts} to give Buckenmayer the double and move him up to just under one million.

Coultas Can't Call

Charles Coultas opened for 52,000 from under the gun and action folded all the way around to Amnon Filippi in the big blind, who asked how much the raise was and then made the call.

The flop came {10-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{5-Hearts} and both players checked.

Both players checked again on the {8-Hearts} river, however, when the {6-Hearts} completed the board, Filippi fired a paltry 45,000 bet into the middle. Coultas quickly mucked and Filippi scooped the pot.

Filippi is sitting on 1.15 million, while Coultas has slipped since returning from dinner to 4.4 million.

Pratt Double Through Peters

On a {A-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{2-Clubs} flop Eric Pratt was just all in for 1,006,000 chips, with already quite some chips in the pot. David Peters showed {K-Clubs}{K-Hearts}, and Pratt needed to dodge clubs and the final king since he has {A-Diamonds}{K-Spades}.

The turn was the {J-Diamonds}, and the river {10-Spades}, securing Pratt of a double up. Peters had already chipped up a bunch after the break, and he's only down to 1.3 million.
