Alexander Holding Steady

Jason Alexander of "Seinfeld" fame hasn't been too active today - neither gaining or losing many chips.

In a recent hand, Alexander opened for 2,000 from early position and found one caller in the player in the big blind.

The flop came {A-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{10-Spades} and both players checked. Both players checked again on the {5-Spades} turn, however, when the {6-Clubs} completed the board, Alexander's opponent bet a paltry 1,200. Alexander quickly called and his opponent tabled {10-}{9-} for a pair of tens. Alexander tabled {Q-Spades}{Q-Clubs} for a pair of queens and scooped the pot.

Alexander is sitting just below where he started today with 49,000

Hellman Gets the Better of Booth Again

Erik Hellman
Erik Hellman

With a raise to 1,300 and two calls before him, Erik Hellman three-bet to 4,800 from the small blind. Only Brad Booth (from the cutoff) came along to see the {10-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{3-Clubs} flop.

Hellman bet 4,900, Booth called, and the {6-Spades} hit the turn. Both checked to see the {7-Spades} river where Hellman bet 13,400. After about 30 seconds, Booth called.

Hellman tabled {J-Hearts}{8-Hearts} for the nut straight, winning the pot and upping his stack to about 285,000.

Bardah Looking for Another Deep Main Event Run

Ronnie Bardah was one of the 59 bracelet winners from the 2012 World Series of Poker, having won Event 40: $2,500 Limit Hold'em - Six-Handed for over $180,000. He also made a deep run in the Main Event the past two years, finishing 24th in 2010 for $317,161 and 453rd in 2011 for $27,103. All three of those combine for a solid WSOP resumé, one that's complete with earnings over $540,000. Below you will find Bardah's winner interview from Event 40 that he did with PokerNews hostess Sarah Grant.

Beginning Day 2c with 50,225, Bardah's seated in the back corner of the Brasilia Room at Table 90 of the Red Section. He's done well on the day so far and worked his way up to 75,000 in chips. Here are a few recent hands with the newly-crowned bracelet winner.

From the small blind, Bardah raised to 1,400 after action folded to him. The big blind folded and Bardah showed the {Q-Hearts}{J-Hearts}, claiming that he wouldn't have minded see a flop with that hand. On the next hand, Bardah opened with a raise to 1,400 on the button. Both blinds folded and Bardah showed an even better hand with the {A-Spades}{Q-Spades}.

Two hands down the road and Bardah raised to 1,300 from the hijack seat before finding a call from Stephanie Dao on the button. The two took the {A-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{9-Hearts} flop and Bardah bet 1,400. Dao called and the turn brought the {9-Clubs} to pair the board. Both players checked. After the {4-Diamonds} landed on the river, both Bardah and Dao checked again. Bardah mucked his hand and Dao showed the {K-Spades}{J-Diamonds}, as per WSOP rules the winning hand must be shown.

A few hands after that, Bardah opened from under the gun to 1,350 and the small blind made the call to see the flop come down {9-Spades}{6-Clubs}{4-Hearts}. A simple bet of 1,350 from Bardah after his opponent checked was all he needed to win the hand and take down this pot.

With his experience in making a couple deep runs in the greatest poker tournament in the world, Bardah said that table draw is one of the biggest factors in being able to build on the first few days. "On Day 5, table draw matters, but not so much as everyone is a lot better overall — it's the cream of the crop then. I just want a good table draw for the first three or four days to slowly build, then it's on." If yesterday's Day 2a/b field was any indication, Bardah's table should break sometime after dinner, so the table draw element he talked about will come into play for sure.

Bardah went on to add, "I hope I just get to play 20 days of the Main Event in three years," citing his very deep run in 2010 and cash in 2011. Both times he had to survive through multiple days of grueling tournament poker to earn the money he did and that's what it's going to take once again. Can he do it? Be sure to stay tuned to PokerNews all Main Event long to find out!

Spinning Chips Away

One of cricket's all-time greatest players Shane Warne is in the field and having a go at making a name for himself in the poker world. We recently arrived at Warne's table with a {9-Clubs}{3-Spades}{4-Diamonds} flop out on the felt and with 10,000 already in the pot.

At this point Warne's opponent led for 3,650 and Warne made the call. Both players then checked the {9-Hearts} turn and it was on to the {q-Spades} river. Warne's opponent shoved all in for around 11,000 here and Warne thought deeply for almost a minute before folding his hand and sending the pot away from his stack.

For your information, Warne's largest career poker cash came in 2010 when he finished third in the $10,000 buy-in event at the Victorian Poker Championships in Australia - an event which Jonathan "xMONSTERxDONGx" Karamalikis won. That was worth a $40,000 to Warne and was his first and only five-figure poker score. Let's see if he can add another one with a deep run here in the World Series of poker Main Event.

Not Ready to Commit Versus Sumit

Sumit Kumar opened for 1,250 from early position, and it folded around to an opponent in late position who reraised to 3,025. The others got out, and Kumar made it 8,025 to go. His opponent then five-bet to 14,075, prompting yet another reraise from Kumar, this time to 26,050, which caused his opponent immediately to fold.

Hansen Loves The Ladies

A player opened to 1,500 and received calls from both Gus Hansen and the player on the button.

The flop came {J-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{2-Clubs}. The original raiser continued for 2,200 and Hansen decided to stick around. The button folded and the two were heads up to the turn of {J-Diamonds}. Both players checked and the river was the {3-Spades}. Hansen's opponent bet 6,150 and Hansen called.

Hansen's opponent showed {A-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds} for ace-high and Hansen showed {Q-Spades}{Q-Hearts} and was able to take down the pot.

Brandon Not Broke

Brandon Adams, author of the poker-themed novel Broke, presently sits with just under 100,000 — about two-thirds of the stack with which he started Day 2c.

Just now Adams was prepared to put it all at risk in a hand in which three players had built a pot of about 5,000 to see a {10-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{2-Hearts} flop.

A player in middle position began with a bet of 2,800 from middle position, a player a couple of seats over folded, then Adams raised to 8,400 from the button. His lone remaining opponent made it 29,000 to go, then Adams reraised all in, and after much thought his opponent let it go.
