Danzer Takes Chips from Kovalchuk

Omaha-8

Oleksii Kovalchuk raised from the small blind, George Danzer three-bet from the big blind, and Kovalchuk leaned over to see how much Danzer had left before making it four bets to go. Danzer called, and the pair watched the flop come {3-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{K-Spades}. Kovalchuk bet, Danzer raised, and Kovalchuk called.

The turn was the {7-Hearts}, and Kovalchuk checked this time, calling when Danzer bet. The river brought the {4-Clubs} and another check from Kovalchuk. Danzer fired once more, and Kovalchuk took over a minute before finally calling.

Danzer: {A-Hearts}{K-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}
Kovalchuk: {A-Clubs}{A-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{6-Spades}

Two pair for Danzer (kings and sixes) for the high, put together with the nut low (6-4-3-2-A), meant a scoop for the German.

Danny Ratigan Eliminated in 4th Place ($65,812)

Daniel Ratigan
Daniel Ratigan

Stud-8

Oleksii Kovalchuk: {x-}{x-} / {3-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{a-Hearts}{4-Hearts} / {x-}
Danny Ratigan: {x-}{x-} / {5-Hearts}{6-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{7-Clubs} / {x-}

Kovalchuk brought it in, Ratigan completed, and Kovalchuk called. Ratigan check-called a bet on fourth street, and when Kovalchuk made a better board on fifth, he led out. Ratigan tanked for quite some time before he raised, committing all but 1,000 chips. Kovalchuk re-raised, putting Ratigan all in. He called.

Kovalchuk: {7-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}
Ratigan: {a-Spades}{q-Clubs}

Kovalchuk was dealt the {4-Hearts} on sixth street, giving him the wheel, and ending the hand. Ratigan's last two cards - the {7-Clubs} and {a-Clubs} - were meaningless, and he was eliminated in fourth place.

Kovalchuk Over Ratigan

Stud-8

Oleksii Kovalchuk brought it in with the {3-Clubs}, Danny Ratigan completed with the {5-Spades}, then Kovalchuk raised and Ratigan called. Ratigan check-called on fourth, bet out on fifth and was called, then both checked sixth. Seventh street was dealt...

Ratigan: {x-}{x-} / {5-Spades}{6-Hearts}{A-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} / {x-}
Kovalchuk: {x-}{x-} / {3-Clubs}{6-Spades}{Q-Spades}{7-Spades} / {x-}

Ratigan bet, and after a bit of thought Kovalchuk made the call. Ratigan announced all he had was the pair of fives showing, and Kovalchuk turned over {10-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{6-Diamonds} for two pair, sevens and sixes.

That one moves Kovalchuk up over 1 million and near Gregorich, while Ratigan is now on the short stack.

Big Scoop for Gregorich

Stud-8

George Danzer{x-}{x-} / {7-Clubs}{q-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds} / {x-}
Danny Ratigan{x-}{x-} / {4-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{2-Spades}{9-Spades} / {x-}
Mark Gregorich{x-}{x-} / {4-Spades}{j-Spades}{2-Clubs}{a-Hearts} / {x-}

Danzer checked on fourth street, Ratigan bet, and both players called. The same action occurred on fifth, and on sixth, the action checked to Gregorich. He bet, and only Danzer called.

Danzer check-called one more bet on seventh, and Gregorich tabled {7-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{3-Hearts} for the wheel. He scooped the pot, and now has 1.2 million chips.

Danzer Pulls Even With Gregorich

Omaha-8

George Danzer raised from the cutoff, and Mark Gregorich called from the big blind. Gregorich led after the {5-Spades}{Q-Clubs}{4-Diamonds} flop, Danzer raised, and Gregorich called. Gregorich then check-called both the {A-Clubs} turn and {6-Clubs} river.

Danzer tabled {K-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{2-Clubs} — he'd made a wheel — and Gregorich mucked. Those two are now virtually even for the chip lead with four left.

Yuval Bronshtein Eliminated in 5th Place ($48,387)

Yuval Bronshtein - 5th Place
Yuval Bronshtein - 5th Place

Stud-8

After losing a sizable pot to George Danzer, Yuval Bronshtein completed with a {q-Diamonds}. Danny Ratigan, who brought it in, called.

Ratigan: {x-}{x-} / {2-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{2-Spades}{4-Clubs} / {x-}
Bronshtein: {x-}{x-} / {q-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{9-Clubs} / {x-}

The money went in on fourth street, and Bronshtein opened up {q-Hearts}{5-Diamonds} for a pair of queens. Ratigan had a monster draw with {6-Spades}{5-Spades}.

"Want to trade hands?" Bronshtein joked.

Bronshtein picked up two pair on fifth, while Ratigan was dealt a meaningless pair of deuces. The {4-Clubs} was pretty much gin for Ratigan on sixth however, and Bronshtein failed to fill up on sixth. His downcard was a meaningless {7-Hearts}, eliminating him from the tournament.

Bronshtein's rail gave him a rousing round of applause, and he was all smiles as he exited.

Kovalchuk Scoops, Survives

Stud-8

Oleksii Kovalchuk completed with the {8-Spades} showing, George Danzer raised with the {6-Spades} up, and Kovalchuk called. Danzer picked up the {10-Clubs} on fourth and checked, and Kovalchuk bet after getting the {5-Hearts}. Danzer called.

Both players picked up face cards on fifth, Danzer checked, Kovalchuk bet, Danzer raised, and Kovalchuk called with his remaining chips.

Kovalchuk: {7-Hearts}{6-Clubs} / {8-Spades}{5-Hearts}{Q-Clubs}
Danzer: {A-Diamonds}{4-Hearts} / {6-Spades}{10-Clubs}{K-Hearts}

Danzer drew the {A-Spades} on sixth for aces while Kovalchuk was dealt the {J-Spades}. Seventh street was dealt face down, and Danzer quickly flipped up his non-improving {Q-Spades}. Kovalchuk squeezed his... the {4-Clubs}! He'd made a straight to grab the high and a low to boot, and doubled up.

Bronshtein Doubles Through Kovalchuk

Yuval Bronshtein doubles.
Yuval Bronshtein doubles.

Stud-8

Yuval Bronshtein: {x-}{x-} / {6-Spades}{2-Spades}{k-Spades}{5-Spades} / {x-}
Mark Gregorich: {x-}{x-} / {j-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{9-Hearts} (FOLDED)
Oleksii Kovalchuk: {x-}{x-} / {4-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{6-Clubs} / {x-}

There was a completion and a raise on third street, and on fourth, all three players checked. Bronshtein led out on fifth, Gregorich released, and Kovalchuk raised enough to put Bronshtein all in. He called.

Bronshtein: {6-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}
Kovalchuk: {6-Spades}{4-Spades}

The {5-Spades} on sixth gave Bronshtein two pair, and Kovalchuk couldn't make a winning low or trips. Bronshtein scooped the pot, doubling to 270,000 chips.
