Soi Nguyens Some Back

On a flop of {6-Clubs}{9-Spades}{6-Hearts}, Soi Nguyen checked to his opponent who fired out a bet of 200. Another player raised to 525 from the button and Nguyen made the call. The original bettor folded his hand and the two players saw a turn. The turn came {3-Hearts} and Nguyen moved all in for 550 more.

Nguyen's opponent seemed to toss the idea of calling back and forth before eventually pushing his cards toward the muck. Although Nguyen scooped the pot, he's still down a significant bit from the starting stack.

Herring Gotta Start Fighting Back

Mixed martial artist Heath Herring has just had his starting table broken.

Now sitting in the Black section of the Pavilion room, it seems as though Herring hasn't started today's tournament too well as he is sitting on just 1,575.

Spending a few minutes sweating his table, Herring was rather calm after already losing two-thirds of his stack, and although he could kick your ass in the octagon, it seems as though he is receiving a little bit of a beating at the table.

For those of you at home that may not follow mixed martial arts, Herring is also the boyfriend of PokerNews' own video hostess Sarah Grant... so maybe if you double him up, an interview may be around the corner!

One for Smith

Level 1 : 25/25, 0 ante

With the board reading {8-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{Q-Spades} and the pot sitting at around 600, Gavin Smith bet out 525 into his opponent.

That opponent quickly made the call, and when Smith tabled his {Q-Clubs}{4-Clubs} for a rivered top pair, his opponent angled his cards to the muck to see Smith pushed the pot.

De Melo Flushed With Chips

We got to Fatima Moreira De Melo's table as she was getting in a big pot with her opponent. The flop read {6-Spades}{q-Spades}{j-Clubs}, and De Melo and her opponent got all the chips in before the turn.

De Melo: {a-Spades}{9-Spades}
Opponent: {j-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}

Her opponent had flopped two pair, but De Melo still had outs for the nut flush. It didn't take long for her to hit the draw, as the turn came the {7-Spades}. The river didn't give her opponent a boat, coming the {4-Spades}, and De Melo scored an early big pot.

Smith Slips

Level 1 : 25/25, 0 ante

Gavin Smith opened for a min-raise to 50 and was called by a player on his direct left.

Smith fired out a bet of 125 on the {j-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{Q-Hearts} flop and found a call from his opponent before Smith pushed out 250. His opponent smooth-called before both players checked the {K-Clubs} on the river.

Smith tabled his {A-Hearts}{7-Hearts}, but when his opponent tabled his {A-Spades}{j-Spades}, Smith sank back to his starting stack.

Watt Losing Power Early

Level 1 : 25/25, 0 ante

Simon Watt and an opponent were heads up on a flop of {6-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}. Watt check raised to 650 after his opponent bet out for 250. His opponent called, and they took a turn of {k-Clubs}. Watt led out for 800, and his opponent moved all in for 3,225. Watt went into the tank before open folding {q-Hearts}{9-Spades} for two pair. That pot dropped Watt to 2,200, still plenty of chips with the blinds only at 25-25.

Shulman Climbing Back

After a player raised to 75, Barry Shulman made the call from late position and the player on the button made the call as well.

The flop came {6-Spades}{7-Hearts}{5-Diamonds} and all three players checked. The turn brought the {J-Diamonds} and it was checked to Shulman who bet out 200. Both players folded and Shulman was able to pad his stack a bit. Still, he's sitting as the table short stack, down a significant amount from the starting stack.
