Brown Makes Huge Call to Double

Rodney Brown
Rodney Brown

PLO

Mitch Schock raised to 56,000 on the button and Rodney Brown made the call to see a {6-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds}{4-Hearts} flop. Brown checked and Schock bet 80,000 only for Brown to check-raise to 210,000. Schock made the call and Brown then fired out a further 410,000 on the {9-Clubs} turn and again Schock made the call.

The river was the {Q-Diamonds} and Brown checked, Schock moved all in (or essentially potted it to put Brown all in) and Brown tanked for several minutes before meekly announcing, "Call."

Schock nodded and tapped the table showing a missed wrap draw {J-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{2-Clubs} and Brown won the pot with {A-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{4-Clubs} for bottom set. Whatever happens after this, both players have shown they're capable of making big plays if they need to.

Something Has to Give

Level 25

Heads-up play is often unpredictable. It may last many hours or just a few minutes. In this match, it seems the players are focused, patient, and more than willing to take their time in picking their spots. Barring a cooler, we expect this match will go awhile.

PLO

Rodney Brown led out for 35,000 on a flop of {A-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{4-Hearts} and Mitch Schock called, the latter then called another bet, this time of 80,000 on the {10-Clubs} turn. Brown then checked the {A-Hearts} river and Schock slid out a chunky bet of 240,000.

Brown responded with a check-raise to 525,000 and Schock snap folded. First blood to Brown.

Level 25

The heads-up action between Rodney Brown and Mitch Schock has been fairly uneventful. The two seem content with feeling each other out.

In a recent hand, Brown raised to 48,000 on the button and Schock made the call. Both players proceeded to check the {10-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{10-Diamonds} flop, which was followed by the {Q-Clubs} turn. Schock check-called a bet of 60,000, and then it went check-check on the {K-Clubs} river.

Schock rolled over {A-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}{9-Spades}{7-Clubs}, but it was no good against Brown's {K-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{4-Spades}{3-Hearts}. Small pot to Brown.

Jan Collado
Jan Collado

Rodney Brown raised to 65,000 and Jan Collado reraised to 160,000 from the small blind, roughly one third of his stack. Brown repotted and Collado sighed and called all in.

Brown: {A-Hearts}{9-Spades}
Collado: {7-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}

The board came {10-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{3-Hearts}, faint hope for Collado on the turn but whiffed on the river.Schock has a 2.5:1 chip lead going into the heads up battle now.

Mitch Schock POY Contender?

Level 25
Mitch Schock POY Contender?
Mitch Schock POY Contender?

You may not have heard the name Mitch Schock prior to today, but you’ll certainly remember it after this tournament comes to a close. No matter where Schock finishes today, he’ll notch his fifth cash of the 2011 World Series of Poker.

Event #6 $1,500 Limit Hold’em (8th- $19,856)
Event #14 $3,000 Limit Hold’em (6th- $41,621)
Event #31 $3,000 Pot-Limit Omaha (60th- $6,077)
Event #34 $1,000 No-Limit Hold’em (12th- $28,239)

Those performances brought his total WSOP cashes to 19, totaling $593,474 . . . A total he will add to considerably no matter where he finishes in this tournament. Not only that, this marks Schock’s third final table of the summer, barely missing out on a fourth with his 12th-place finish. His success has earned him 152.31 points in the WSOP POY Race, currently good for 76th place; consequently, Schock’s performance here today will no doubt see him skyrocket toward the top of the list. To say Schock has a lot on the line would certainly be an understatement.
