Andrew Brown Gets Max Value on Quads

On a {Q-Spades}{8-Clubs}{2-Spades} flop, the action was checked to Andrew Brown, who bet 1,500. Both of his opponents called. The turn was the {J-Diamonds} and it again went check-check to Brown. He bet 4,200, his first opponent called, and the second raised to 15,000. Both players called. The river was the {2-Hearts}. Opponent #1 checked, Opponent #2 moved all-in, Brown called, and Opponent #1 folded.

Brown turned over {2-Diamonds}{2-Clubs} for quads and took it down. He's up to 128,000.

Wasserson Squeezed Out

Over at Table 356 Eric Wasserson was in the cutoff and had called an all-in bet of 7,600 from the player acting under the gun. The player in the button decided to come along as well.

Before the flop, Wasserson asked the player on the button, "Got a good hand?" Before requesting "No side pots."

The flop came down {6-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}{9-Spades} and Wasserson checked, repeating "No side pots." The player on the button was having none of it, though, and bet 30,000, leading Wasserson to fold.

Button: {a-Clubs}{q-Spades}
Under the gun: {q-Clubs}{q-Hearts}

Wasserson seemed happy with his fold, but the Button could not have enjoyed the situation he was in. The turn and river didn't change a thing, coming {3-Spades}{k-Diamonds}.

Wasserson still has 51,000 chips.

Montgomery and Peppe Peace

Nicole Peppe and Scott Montgomery have been eliminated from the 2010 Main Event. We missed the hands, but Bernard Lee was kind enough to let us in on Montgomery's bust out.

After a player in the cutoff opened to 1,500, Montgomery moved in for about 10,000. The original raiser called with {a-}{9-} and Montgomery was behind with {k-}{8-}. Montgomery could not catch up and he was eliminated.

Kabbaj's Draw Comes Home

With 10,000 in chips in the pot and on a flop of {2-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}{3-Clubs}, John Kabbaj tangled with a shorter-stacked player whose last 12,000 went into the middle. Kabbaj was drawing with {9-Clubs}{7-Clubs}; his opponent's ace-high {a-Clubs}{k-Diamonds} was the leading hand. Neither player improved with the {j-Hearts} turn, but Kabbaj it a club on the river, {j-Clubs}, to make a flush, take down the pot, and eliminate his opponent.

Nguyen Dodges Aces

We arrived at Team PokerStars Pro Anh Van Nguyen's table and found him in the tank. The pot had about 15,000 in the middle. A short-stacked player was all in and another player was all in for 48,075.

Nguyen thought it over for about three minutes, but folded {K-Spades}{K-Clubs} face up. He was relieved to see the 48k all-in opponent turn over {A-Hearts}{A-Diamonds} and was even happier to see the flop deliver the {A-Clubs}. His table was set to break and even the floorman complemented Nguyen on the fold.

He saved himself many chips and has about 75,000.

Morrison Over and Out

It was a bad spot for Kirk Morrison to pick up Big Slick. He moved all in after the under-the-gun player opened with a raise. The button player, Jiaqi Xu, called Morrison's all in, which induced the under-the-gun player to re-raise to 12,275. Xu moved all in for 16,600 total and was called for a three-way showdown.

UTG: {6-Hearts}{6-Clubs}
Morrison: {a-Clubs}{k-Hearts}
Xu: {a-Diamonds}{a-Spades}

Xu's aces were in the lead on every street, {q-Hearts}{7-Spades}{10-Hearts}{q-Spades}{2-Spades}. Chalk up a double-elimination and knock Xu up to 36,500. A tough WSOP for Morrison is now over.

Lodden Dazzled by Lights of Broadway

Johnny Lodden
Johnny Lodden

We found Team PokerStars Pro Johnny Lodden betting 3,300 in position on the river of a {k-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{q-Hearts} board after his opponent had checked. Said opponent then check-raised to 10,000 and Lodden called, but mucked when he was shown {a-Hearts}{j-Diamonds} for a Broadway straight.

Norwegian Team Pro Lodden is in no particular trouble after that, though, on 90,000.

Doyle Flops the Nuts

Four players including Doyle Brunson saw a {J-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{4-Hearts} flop for 1,900 each. The action was checked around. The turn came the {3-Diamonds} and everyone checked over to the button, who bet 4,400. Only Brunson called. The river was the {7-Clubs}. Brunson checked and the button checked behind.

Brunson couldn't have been too pleased with that check-behind as he showed {A-Hearts}{7-Hearts} for the flopped nut flush. Texas Dolly is up to 52,000 in chips.

Stories to Tell

The World Series is a fountain of colorful characters, many of whom become an integral part of the ESPN coverage. One player who you'll perhaps be hearing from more than any other, however, is David "Flip" Filippi, the older sibling of professional poker player Amnon.

Over the course of the day, David has been entertaining - and wowing - his table with various anecdotes from his action-packed life, one of which included the time where he was shot nine times. We didn't believe him at first, but then he lifted his shirt to reveal the bullet wounds.

When he's not escaping death, David is hitting the small screen, and even featured in an advert for Icebreaker mints where he paraded along a beach in hot pants.

"Hebrew school to heroin and back again," he confessed with a smile. "My attitude is gratitude, I'm just happy to be here." With Jack Ury a few tables along, the white section certainly has some stories to tell.

Sands Gives Back

Dave "Doc" Sands just gave some chips back when an opponent doubled through him for 16,475 with the {10-Hearts}{9-Hearts}. Sands held the {A-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds} and all the money went in preflop.

The board ran out {A-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{J-Diamonds} and Sands sent over the chips as his opponent rivered a straight.
