Williams Takes Small Hit

With a limper in front of him, David Williams popped it to 800 and found two callers. They took a flop of {8-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{K-Spades} and action checked to Williams who fired 1,800. He found one caller as the {A-Clubs} hit the turn. Williams released a second barrel worth 4,500 which was again called.

The river was the {6-Diamonds} and Williams checked, then called the bet of 10,000. His opponent opened {A-Spades}{8-Spades} for two pair which was good to take it down. Williams slips to 128,000.

Kopp Doubles

Sometimes, playing those goofy suited gappers does pay off.

Billy Kopp got his 24,000 in chips in the middle on a {K-Spades}{3-Spades}{3-Clubs} flop and was called by an opponent holding pocket queens. Kopp had flopped trips with {3-Diamonds}{6-Spades}. The turn was the {J-Diamonds}, the river was the {J-Spades} and Kopp doubled to just shy of 50,000.

Kings-Up for Baker

With around 5,000 in the pot and the board reading {5-Hearts}{K-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{7-Hearts}, Amanda Baker check-called 3,675 as the {j-Spades} landed on the river.

Baker then check-called 2,550 and tabled her {K-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} to best her opponent's {K-Spades}{2-Spades} to climb to 53,000 in chips.

More For Williams

David Williams is well on the way to having the overall chip lead in this Main Event as he's already up to 146,000 before the end of the second level.

After a raise to 575 and a re-raise to 1,500, Williams called in position and the three players saw a flop of {3-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}. Play checked to Williams who fired 2,000 which found one caller.

The turn brought the {2-Hearts} and again it was checked to Williams who committed 5,500 into the pot. It was too much for his opponent who folded as Williams extends his lead.

Mercier Folds Turn

Isabelle Mercier opened to 600 from middle position only to have an opponent in the cutoff three-bet to 1,550.

Mercier made the call as the dealer dropped the {k-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{4-Hearts} flop and Mercier check-called a 1,800-chip bet.

The turn landed the {Q-Clubs} and Mercier was this time faced with a bet of 3,350.

The French-Canadian didn't take too long in finding a fold as she slipped down to 20,100 in chips.

Leigh Active

On a flop of {8-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds} heads-up action checked to Jennifer Leigh who fired 1,300 from the cutoff position. Her opponent called before again checking the {2-Spades}. Leigh fired again for 3,050 and after some friendly banter, her opponent let it go. Leigh flashed {9-Spades}{8-Spades}.

A moment or two later Leigh was in the thick of the action again, firing 2,000 on the flop, 3,000 on the turn before checking the river on a board of {5-Hearts}{A-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}. Her opponent checked behind and Leigh opened {A-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}, thankful enough to be chopping against her opponent's {A-Hearts}{Q-Spades}.

Leigh is still stuck on around 18,000.

Lindley Loses Some

Christina Lindley
Christina Lindley

An under the gun player limped in only to have someone in middle position raise to 900. Christina Lindley called from the cutoff and so did the big blind and the under the gun player.

The flop came {6-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{4-Clubs} and the big blind bet 1,900. Everyone folded to Lindley who made the call. When the {J-Diamonds} came on the turn, the big blind bet 3,800 and Lindley decided to give it up. She is still sitting with a decent stack around 40,000.

Beware the durrrr Check-Raise

Tom Dwan checked a {k-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{3-Clubs} flop, and the player next to act bet 1,825. Two more folded, and Dwan made the call. Both of them checked the {5-Hearts} turn, and Dwan checked once more after the {q-Hearts} put a fourth heart on the board. His opponent bet 3,250, and durrrr check-raised the river to 10,000 even. He got a call and showed {a-Hearts}{4-Hearts} for the nut flush. His opponent didn't have a boat to beat it, so Dwan took the pot and moved back to 32,725.

Baker Baker, Baking a Straight

Three players went to the {a-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}{10-Clubs} flop at Mandy Baker's table. One checked and one bet 1,200 before Baker raised to 2,825. Only the first player called. That player check-called another 4,700 on teh {3-Clubs} turn and 9,500 on the {5-Diamonds} river. Baker's flopped straight, {k-Spades}{q-Diamonds}, was best against her opponent's two pair, {a-Spades}{j-Spades}. As a result Baker is up to 48,000.
