David Baker Eliminated in 17th Place ($8,782)

David Baker
David Baker
Razz

Aaron Steury completed with the {2-Spades} showing and then David Baker raised to commit himself to the hand with the {5-Hearts}. Stewart Yancik reraised with the {6-Clubs} showing and everyone folded back to Baker. Baker put the rest of his chips in.

Baker: ({8-Hearts} {2-Diamonds}) {5-Hearts} {J-Diamonds} {5-Diamonds} {6-Hearts} (X)
Yancik: ({5-Clubs} {3-Clubs}) {6-Clubs} {A-Diamonds} {10-Clubs} {5-Spades} (X)

Yancik peeled seventh first and rolled over the {K-Hearts} saying, "You have to beat a ten."

Baker squeezed hard and then revealed the {10-Hearts}. His ten-eight low wasn't good enough to beat Yancik's ten-six low and he was eliminated in 17th place. We're now down to the final two tables and we'll have a seat draw for you shortly.

Ylon Schwartz Eliminated in 18th Place ($8,782)

Ylon Schwartz - 18th Place
Ylon Schwartz - 18th Place
Omaha-8

Ylon Schwartz was still rattled from the pot he lost earlier in the day, and decided to commit his last chips in an Omaha-8 hand.

Schwartz was in the cutoff when we caught the action on the turn with him calling a bet on a {2-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{7-Hearts} board. The river was the {K-Hearts} and his opponent, Stewart Yancik, fired out another bet from the small blind with Schwartz insta-calling for his last chips.

Schwartz tabled {A-Clubs}{5-Spades}{8-Spades}{Q-Clubs} hoping for half but Yancik revealed {A-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{5-Diamonds} for a flush for the high and a better low, to leave Schwartz headed to the rail in 18th place.

Baker Doubles Back, Twice

Hold'em

David Baker raised all in preflop and both blinds, Matt Hawrilenko and Aaron Steury, called. On the flop of {8-Spades} {8-Clubs} {2-Hearts}, Steury bet after Hawrilenko checked. Hawrilenko folded and Steury took his {K-Hearts} {J-Hearts} up against Baker's {A-Clubs} {J-Clubs}.

The turn was the {3-Spades} and the river the {A-Diamonds} to give Baker the double up and put him back to around 18,000.

A short moment later, Baker was all in again. This time he was up against Ylon Schwartz. Schartz held {J-Clubs} {7-Spades} and Baker held {Q-Spades} {9-Diamonds}. The board ran out {A-Clubs} {A-Diamonds} {K-Spades} {5-Spades} {8-Hearts}. Baker was able to double up again and now has around 36,000 chips.

Smith Cripples Baker

Stud-8

David Baker: (X-X) {A-Clubs} {6-Diamonds} {4-Clubs} {5-Spades} (X)
Gavin Smith: (X-X) {5-Diamonds} {Q-Diamonds} {7-Clubs} {9-Diamonds} (X)

After Baker completed, Smith made the call on third. Baker then led on fourth and fifth and was called each time by Gavin. Sixth street was checked by both players and then Baker checked seventh as well. Smith fired a bet and Baker called.

Smith turn up two more diamonds in the hole, {7-Diamonds} {3-Diamonds} {2-Clubs}, to go along with his three on board for a flush. Baker mentioned that he only held two big pairs and then mucked his hand. From this hand, Baker was crippled to under 10,000 chips.

Jared Okun Eliminated in 21st Place ($8,782)

Jared Okun
Jared Okun
Stud

Jared Okun was another overnight short stack but he couldn't find the double-up in a hand of Stud against Asher Derei. Okun was all in by fourth street and the boards ran out as follows:

Okun: ({7-Clubs}{A-Spades}) {K-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts} ({3-Clubs})
Derei: ({10-Spades}{10-Diamonds}) {Q-Spades}{10-Clubs}{A-Hearts}{2-Spades} ({8-Spades})

Derei takes it down to eliminate our first player of the day - Jared Okun in 21st place. He collects $8,782 for a fine tournament.

Revenge of the Short Stacks!

Ylon Schwartz
Ylon Schwartz
A couple of double-ups have started our day, with the short stacks fighting hard for their shot at WSOP glory.

Razz

Our overnight short stack, Frank Debus doubled in a hand of Razz against Asher Derei.

Debus raised and Derei reraised to put Debus all in on third street. The board ran out:

Debus: ({A-?}{3-?}) {4-?}{2-?}{Q-?}{8-?} ({7-?})
Derei: ({2-?}{4-?}) {7-?}{K-?}{K-?}{4-?} (X)

Debus made a seven-low which Derei couldn't match to double up to 50,000.

Stud

Meanwhile a raising war on fourth street between Matt Hawrilenko and Ylon Schwartz, saw Hawrilenko all in by fifth street. Before the river was dealt, their boards were:

Schwartz: ({A-Clubs}{Q-Clubs}) {A-Spades}{5-Spades}{K-Hearts}{4-Clubs}
Hawrilenko: ({A-Hearts}{A-Diamonds}) {9-Spades}{6-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}

"Am I live?" said Hawrilenko as Schwartz flipped his river to reveal the {9-Diamonds}.

He then squeezed his own river, needing some help to stay alive and found the {3-Spades} for two pair, aces over threes. He doubles to 140,000 as a visibly disturbed Schwartz slips to 110,000.
