Jamie Rosen Takes Bad Hand Far

Just before the break, on a flop of {3-Spades}{10-Clubs}{8-Hearts}, the opponent bets 8,600 and Jamie Rosen calls. The turn is {3-Diamonds} and the opponent bets 16,000. Rosen raises to 40,000 and the opponent reraises all in to 70,000. Rosen calls and shows {5-Hearts}{3-Hearts} to his opponent's {K-?}{10-?}. The river is {7-Spades} and Rosen busts a player, moving up to 185,000.

Sigurd Eskeland Wins Huge Pot

Sigurd Eskeland just jumped several spots on the chip leaderboard when he took down a giant multi-way pot.

The flop came {J-Clubs} {8-Hearts} {3-Spades} and Eskeland, who held {8-Diamonds} {8-Spades}, checked his set. With two players to act after him, who both moved all in, Eskeland called and showed them that {A-?} {A-?} and {K-?} {K-?} were no good.

The turn and river blanked and Eskeland's set of eights was best. He eliminated two players and climbed to about 650,000 chips in the process.

Not a Bad Way to Start Things Off

And on the first hand Jeff Madsen played, Mike Wattel raised to 4,000 and Madsen popped it to 12,000. Wattel folded...and Madsen showed pocket aces. He tried to put the cards in his pocket as he got up for break but the dealer pointed out that this would almost certainly be against the rules.

Break Time

We lost nearly 300 players in that first vicious level here at Day 3, and the remaining 1,062 are on the first break of the day.

Fortin Rockets Ahead

Patrick Fortin was all in with his opponent preflop. Fortin held pocket aces against his opponent's pocket jacks. The aces held for Fortin and he's now up over 330,000.

Heeeeere's Jeff!

And just as I posted that last little note, Jeff Madsen made his appearance at the Main Event. He took his seat and asked, "Did I beat John Murphy's record", recalling the 2004 Main Event where Murphy overslept and showed up very, very late. Jeff was told that no, Murphy still had the record for most snooze buttons hit during the Main Event, and then Madsen asked, "OK, so who's been the one stealing most of my blinds?" The players all pointed at who they said was the main culprit and we'll see if Madsen can win those chips back.

Biggest Pot So Far

JaffaCake on the up.
JaffaCake on the up.
Brian Schaedlich limped from early position before Jeff Kimber raised to 6,000 from the button and Schaedlich made the call before the flop came {Q-Spades} {3-Diamonds} {5-Hearts}.

Schaedlich checked to face a 6,000 bet from Kimber that he raised up to 15,000. Kimber then reraised up to 50,000 before Schaedlich raised again and for all his chips. It was a huge raise considering how deep these two were.

Kimber snap-called with {Q-Hearts} {Q-Clubs} and a shell-shocked Schaedlich turned over {A-Diamonds} {A-Hearts} . The turn came {10-Diamonds} and river {4-Clubs} to hand the biggest pot of this year's Main Event to Jeff Kimber, a massive 681,000.

Schaedlich's back down to 387,000 and, as he was handing over chips, he commented "What could I do?"

Kimber said he would never have gone to war without the goods because of the size of Schaedlich's stack.

This Is Your 2PM Wake-Up Call

Call, fists pounding on the door, whatever. Apparently the reason why Jeff Madsen hasn't shown up today is because he uses his iPod as his alarm clock and his iPod ran out of juice. People have been trying to call him to no avail and now someone has actually been dispatched to his house to (gently) wake Jeff up and hustle him to the Amazon Room.

Slot Broken

Mark Slot moved all in for 38,000 total preflop against a player in the small blind and received a call. Slot held {9-Diamonds} {4-Diamonds} and his opponent held {A-Clubs} {Q-Clubs}.

Board: {10-Hearts} {8-Diamonds} {2-Spades} {K-Spades} {5-Clubs}

Ace high was good enough to send Slot to the rail.

Rivera Runs Into a Bigger Hand

Anthony Rivera called a raise from the big blind from Peter Traply. The flop came down {8-Spades} {6-Diamonds} {4-Hearts} when Rivera check-raised his single opponent. Traply then put Rivera all in and Rivera made the call, getting his remaining 70,000 chips in the middle on the flop.

Rivera held pocket jacks, but was behind Traply's queens. The turn came the {10-Hearts} and the river the {2-Hearts}.

Rivera left the tournament area slowly and unsatisfied with himself in the event. He was able to come away with a big win in the $10,000 World Championship Mixed Event when he took home the bracelet.
