Flop Good, Flop Bad

Camillo Calabrese was all in with {7-Hearts}

against Hoyt Corkins' {A-Hearts}

. The

gave Corkins the ace he was looking for but that did him little good as Calabrese flopped a set. The board ran out {6-Hearts}

and Calabrese doubled to 90,000 while Corkins saw his stack slip to 230,000 after a very good start to the day.

Rolf Slotboom Likes the Rockets

T6 player Rolf Slotboom just picked up a nice pot when his {A-Diamonds} {A-Hearts} held up against the {J-Diamonds} {J-Clubs} of his opponent.

The chips went in preflop and the {A-Spades} {10-Hearts} {10-Clubs} {8-Hearts} {2-Clubs} board left Slotboom with the win.

He now commands a stack of over 150,000 chips.

Kaplar Kings Cracked

Andre Kaplar made it 6,500 to go on a flop of {4-Clubs}

and David Olson called from the button. The turn was the {J-Clubs}

and Olson fired out 20,000 after Kaplar checked. Kaplar called to see the {3-Hearts}

fall on the river. He checked and Olson made it 32,000 to go. Kaplar called and showed pocket kings only to see Olson turn over {J-Hearts}

for two pair. Kaplar's down to just 36,000 after the hand while Olson's up to 264,000.

Seventeen minutes, three tables

We've lost three tables worth of players in the 17 minutes since the level started. The blazing pace of this event has not let up much, if at all.

Tony Cousineau Eliminated

Tony Cousineau was eliminated after running pocket eights into his opponent's pocket aces. Tony had few outs and wasn't able to improve.

Smoking Is Allowed At the Tables???

Earlier, we observed a gentleman over at Table 31 that appeared to be clearly smoking a cigarette. The World Series of Poker is a non-smoking event. Someone even reported the gentleman to a floorman who came over to him. The floor spoke with him, and then left. The gentleman continued puffing away.

We found out during the break that the gentleman was puffing away on a smokeless cigarette. Smokeless cigarettes deliver none of the harmful gases that normal cigarettes produce, and therefore are totally legal at the table. The "smoke" is actually vapor that disappears within a second or two after being blown out.

This could prove an interesting solution for some of those players that have to take frequent "smoke breaks." If this sort of thing catches on, we very well may see these becoming more common in poker rooms across the country.

Graham Shows a Bluff

Preflop, Matt Graham raised to 4,200 and David Kim reraised to 17,200. Graham called.

On the flop of {7-Diamonds}

, Kim bet out 16,000 and Graham raised to 36,000. Kim called.

On the turn card of the {2-Spades}

, Kim bet out 40,000. Graham asks, "Will you call if I go all in?" Kim showed his chips so that Graham can see how much he has left. Graham made the call. Kim only has about 15,000 at this point.
The river fell the {3-Clubs}

and Kim checked to Graham, who bet enough to put Kim all in. Kim tanks for a while and finally folds. Graham showed {Q-Spades}
