A Story for Fyke's People Back Home

Mimi Tran Playing an Earlier Event
Mimi Tran Playing an Earlier Event
From under the gun, Mimi Tran opened with a raise to 900. Action passed all the way around to Christian Fyke in the small blind, and he made the call for a small discount.

The two players saw a flop of {3-Spades} {3-Diamonds} {10-Spades}. Fyke bet out into Tran, pushing forward 1,125 chips. Mimi came back with a raise to 5,150, and Fyke reraised another 5,000 on top, enough to put his opponent all in. Mimi Tran did indeed make the call, showing down {A-Spades} {Q-Spades}. Fyke had the lead and Mimi's tournament life in his hands with his {K-Hearts} {10-Clubs}.

As the table awaited the dealer to run out the last two cards, Fyke looked at Mimi and smiled, saying, "No matter what happens, I have a story for the people back home now."

And it's not going to be a bad beat story. The turn and river provided nothing useful for Mimi. The {5-Hearts} and {J-Hearts} that came down failed to improve her hand and she finds no salvation from being eliminated.

Kara Scott Cripples Justin Bonomo

Kara Scott
Kara Scott
A middle position raiser made it 800 to go and Kara Scott called from late position as did Justin Bonomo from the small blind.

The flop came {J-Spades} {5-Hearts} {3-Spades} and Bonomo led out for 2,300. The middle position player folded and Scott raised to 6,500. Bonomo, who had Scott barely covered, moved all in for over 25,000 and Scott made the call. The players showed:

Bonomo: {A-Spades} {6-Spades}
Scott: {5-Spades} {5-Diamonds}

The turn fell the {6-Clubs} and the river was the {5-Clubs}. Scott made quads on the river and stacked the pot. She doubled through Bonomo leaving him with just 400 chips while she climbed to just over 66,000.

The Richey Get Richer

Brett Richey in HORSE Championship
Brett Richey in HORSE Championship
Preflop, Brett Richey raises to 1,600 in middle position, and another MP player calls.

The flop is {Q-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{8-Spades} and Richey bets 2,200. The opponent shoves for 12,000 all in and Richey insta-calls with {A-Clubs}{A-Spades}. The opponent has but {2-?}{2-?}.

The turn and river are {3-Diamonds}{J-Clubs} and Richey busts his hapless opponent, moving up to 65,000.

Wham Bam, Thank You Ma'am

Within moments, we had two eliminations at two tables right next to each other.

The first to go, just, was Jameson Painter after he got it all in preflop with {K-Clubs} {Q-Hearts} versus an opponent's {7-Clubs} {7-Spades}.

The board ran {3-?} {4-?} {5-?} {3-?} {10-?} to felt him.

The next was Matt McCullough who was holding {K-Spades} {Q-Spades} versus Dan Heimiller's {5-Clubs} {5-Spades}.

It all went in, and it's easy to see why, on a {Q-?} {5-?} {2-?} flop. There was hope with the {K-?} on the turn but McCollough was already heading off as the {3-?} dropped on the river.

As Heimiller was stacking his 35,500 stack he joked that he only wants to bust players to get the Everest Poker green cushions the players were given to sit on.

Chen Gets Paid Off

Bill Chen - event #53
Bill Chen - event #53
From early position, Bill Chen raised to 700. Bart Hanson called from the cutoff and the big blind called as well. {10-Spades} {10-Diamonds} {8-Clubs} landed on the felt for the flop. The big blind checked and Chen bet 1,200. Hanson folded. The big blind called.

The turn was the {J-Diamonds} and it was checked to Chen. He bet 2,500 and the player called. The river was the {8-Spades} and once again it was checked to Chen. He made a bet of 5,000 and the player called.

Chen showed {A-Hearts} {10-Hearts} for tens full of eights. The other player flashed the {8-Diamonds} and then mucked his hand.

Bill Chen calculated his chip stack to be 35,200 after this hand.

Morris Doesn't Need to Bluff

On a flop of {J-Hearts} {Q-Diamonds} {6-Clubs}, Eric Morris, editor of Bluff magazine, checked and his opponent led out. Eric quickly raised and his opponent moved all in for another 16,000. Eric called and showed Q-J for a flopped two pair against his opponent's A-Q. The two pair held up for Eric, who's up to 41,000 after the hand.

Morrison Gets One Back From Jepsen

You Liked That Kirk?
You Liked That Kirk?
Peter Jepsen raised it up to 950 from early position and Kirk Morrison made the call on the button.

They took a flop of {7-Spades}{3-Spades}{J-Spades} and Jepsen led for 2,000. Morrison made the call. The turn was the {8-Clubs} and both players checked.

The river brought the {3-Clubs} and Jepsen fired out 5,000. Morrison chirped "I think I got you...but I'm not gonna raise you!" before making the call and tabling {9-Hearts}{9-Spades}. Jepsen tapped the table and mucked his cards as he slips to 19,000 while Morrison is now back up to over 28,000.

Cooper Scoops

Caroline Cooper - event #9
Caroline Cooper - event #9
The pot sat at 1,600 when the flop came down {A-Spades} {Q-Clubs} {7-Diamonds} between Caroline Cooper and her opponent. The player checked to Cooper and she bet out 1,000. Her opponent called.

The turn was the {7-Clubs} and Cooper bet 1,000 again after being checked to. Her opponent called again.

The river was the {2-Clubs} and once again, Cooper's opponent check-called. This time, the bet was for 3,500.

Cooper showed {Q-Spades} {Q-Hearts} and her opponent held {A-Diamonds} {Q-Diamonds}.

"Don't worry, I'll get some chips back," mentioned Cooper's opponent.

Cooper is now up to 28,300.

Rolf Receives Stack of Chips

Rolf, incognito
Rolf, incognito
T6 pro Rolf Slotboom raises preflop to 700 and five players call.

The flop is {A-Diamonds}{K-Clubs}{10-Spades} and everyone checks.

The turn is {5-Clubs} and an early-position player bets 300. Rolf raises to 1,500 and a late-position player re-pops to 6,625. It's folded back around to Rolf, who calls.

On the river of {K-Hearts}, both check.

Rolf turns over {A-Spades}{Q-Spades} and wins with top two pair versus what could have been a busted draw. Rolf has 44,000.

The Sheik is All the Rage

Shawn "Sheiky" Sheikhan made it 2,000 to go on a flop of {Q-Spades} {5-Clubs} {7-Spades} and found a single caller. The turn brought the {K-Clubs} and both players checked. The river was the {4-Diamonds} and Shawn fired 3,000 into the pot and his opponent called.

His opponent showed pocket fours for a rivered set and Shawn threw his cards into the muck, but not before slamming the table with his fists and shouting a few obscenities first.

After the hand, he's down to 23,500.
