2008 World Series of Poker
Event 50 - $10,000 Pot Limit Omaha World Championship
Day: 3
Mizrachi bets 120,000, roughly half the pot, on a flop of . Jetten has no stomach for continuing with the hand.
Brandon Moran has the button in Seat 2. Kido Pham is the first player to fire at the pot, coming in for a min-raise to 80,000. Moran, with his newly acquired chips, thinks for a few seconds before calling from the button. Peter Jetten also calls from the small blind, but the big blind, Michael Mizrachi, throws a wrench in the works by declaring a pot-sized raise to 400,000.
Kido Pham has the first decision after Mizrachi's raise. He tanks for about a minute and then calls. Moran must like his chances against two players, as he quickly moves all in for less than the 400,000 bet, drawing a gasp of surprise from the spectators in the lounge. Jetten is the only one to lay down his hand.
With two live players, Moran keeps his hand closed as the flop comes down . Mizrachi quickly moves all in, folding Pham. The side pot is his; now Brandon Moran will fight him for the main pot and Moran's tournament life.
Mizrachi:
Moran:
Moran is in terrible shape against Mizrachi's set. The turn cinches the hand for Mizrachi by making him a full house. For those keeping score at home, the river came .
Mizrachi drags a huge pot to increase his chip lead, and in the process sends Moran to the rail to collect $107,442.
Moran:
Smyth:
The hand are fairly even until the flop comes to make a set for Moran along with a redraw to a flush. The turn helps neither player, and the on the river isn't enough to save Smyth's hand. Moran doubles up.
The flop reveals . Harroch bets 120,000. Pham lets his hand go, and Moran studies the situation for a minute. After a little delay, he announces, "I raise the pot," making it a total of 480,000, enough to cover his opponent. Harroch makes the call and is all in for a total of 450,000, at risk of elimination. With the betting complete, the hands are turned up:
Moran:
Harroch:
Harroch is leading with his set of sevens and needs to fade two more cards to keep his spot at the table.
The turn is the , giving him a ten-high straight and leaving Moran drawing to a ten for a chop. The river improves Harroch further; the makes him a full boat, and he more than doubles up close to the million mark. Moran, meanwhile, is left with just 135,000 chips.
Action folds back to Jetten, who goes into the tank for about a minute and then folds. Arygros immediately give Mizrachi's shoulder a squeeze and says, "Buddy! You and I!" (His voice is now carrying clearly across the stage area.) He playfully puts his rubber crocodile on Mizrachi's arm, who politely shakes it off. After another minute, Mizrachi makes the call. He has been involved in every all-in today.
Mizrachi:
Argyros:
A curious call by Mizrachi, as he had to believe that his hand was far behind whatever Billy The Croc would reraise all in with. As MC Robbie Thompson is calling out the hands, he remarks that Billy The Croc has by far the best hand. "However," adds Thompson, "this *is* Omaha."
The flop comes . It's no help for either player, though Mizrachi does pick up a gutshot wheel draw.
The turn is the . "Pair the board!" says Argyros, several times. He gets something just as good -- a river of . He makes jacks full of kings to sweep in the pot and double up.
"Lets rock and roll!" shouts Argyros. He then starts calling out "valye" which he says is Greek for jack.
It comes out . Kido checks, and The Grinder checks behind.
Fourth street is the . Again, both men check.
River: , and both players check once more.
Kido Pham is first to show, and he reveals , giving him tens over sevens. It's the winner, as The Grinder double-checks and slips his hand into the muck.
The heads-up flop comes down . Pham checks it over, and Moran announces, "I bet the pot," sliding out 270,000 chips. Pham quickly mucks, and Moran rakes in the pot.
