Final Announcements

Nolan Dalla
Nolan Dalla
Media Coordinator Nolan Dalla takes the microphone to give some final instructions to the massive number of media representatives in the room. It sounds like access will be restricted for most media outlets from this point forward.

PokerNews will continue to provide complete coverage of all the action. To keep things clear for the tournament staff, we are off the floor during the money bubble so they can track the action. But once the bubble bursts, we will be back out on the floor, providing as much coverage as possible.

Jack Effel gives the players some final instructions, particularly the fact that they are not allowed to wander around the room, go to the bathroom, or anything else. They must stay in their seats during hand-for-hand play. (There's no talk about a penalty, however.) If a player busts out, they must stay in their seat until a floorperson comes to them.

Final Preparations for Hand-For-Hand Play

Assistant Tournament Director Jimmy Sommerfeld prepares dealers and floorstaff for hand-for-hand play
Assistant Tournament Director Jimmy Sommerfeld prepares dealers and floorstaff for hand-for-hand play
Jimmy Sommerfeld is standing on the podium with the mic going over the entire hand-for-hand process for all the dealers and floorstaff. They've prepared for this moment for a long time, and Sommerfeld is doing an excellent job walking everyone through the final preparations.

When players begin busting out of the money, we will have eliminations posted directly to the "Prizepool and Payouts" section (there's a link on the right), and we will be posting batches of them in the live update section.

Scotty Nguyen Says He Had Queens Beat, Baby

Scotty Nguyen is all in, Baby
Scotty Nguyen is all in, Baby
Late in the last level, a player in middle position raises to 9,000, Scotty Nguyen calls from the small blind, and the big blind calls. The flop comes {9-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{4-Hearts}, Nguyen bets 9,000, the big blind raises to 29,000, the middle-position player folds, and Nguyen calls. The turn card is the {K-Spades}, and Nguyen says, "All in." He smoothly moves his chips out in front of him and begins carefully counting them down -- it's 45,100. The big blind goes into the tank for several minutes.

It doesn't take long for ESPN and the rest of the media to notice the action, and they swarm the table, putting additional pressure on the player facing a decision. Scotty Nguyen says (to no one in particular), "You never know, baby, you never know. My money's all in there."

Shortly after that, the big blind folds, showing {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}. Nguyen says, "You know I have that beat, baby." But Nguyen mucks his cards without showing, and takes the pot.

Scotty Nguyen is up to about 130,000.

40-Minute Break; Play Resumes at 3:30 pm PDT

Color Up
Color Up
Not all the hands finished before the level came to an end, so the players take a 40-minute break. The black (100) chips will be colored up and off the tables, and the tournament staff will get a clear and accurate count of the number of players remaining so hand-for-hand play can begin smoothly.

Play will resume at 3:30 pm PDT.

Just So You Know

Our floor reporters have been rousted from the playing floor, as only ESPN is allowed inside the ropes to cover the hand-for-hand action. So we might not be able to bring you any detailed info about bustouts, but we'll play catch-up as best we can.

Battlestations Ready

Nolan has been announcing over the speakers that each dealer needs to be prepared in their station. We are just a few spots away from hand-for-hand and the entire floor is stationed, waiting for the money to be reached.

Jong O's Miracle Broadway Straight

Jeff Dumas opened the pot from early position, Jong O (that's his real name) moved all in for 35,000 from middle position, and Dumas called. Dumas turned over {J-Hearts}{J-Spades} while Jong O showed {A-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}. The flop was {J-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{7-Diamonds} making Dumas top set. The turn was the {8-Spades}, but the river was the devastating {K-Spades}, making a Broadway straight for Jong O and doubling him up to 80,000.
