Singer Distraught

David Singer is still meandering around the Amazon Room, trying to resolve the cellphone controversy surrounding his elimination from the tournament.

Here's the latest:

Jack Effel wants to investigate whether or not the player in question was using his phone for text messaging purposes; Singer believes that fact is irrelevant.

Here is the official cellphone policy, as stated in the 2007 WSOP rulebook:

"82. Cell Phone Rule: A player who wants to use a cellular phone must step away from the table. Any player on the cell phone or texting a messaging when the dealer delivers the first card from the deck will have a dead hand. No cell phones can be placed on a poker table."

Singer, who is a lawyer by profession, has requested a refund from tournament staff and is seeking the opportunity to play in one of the remaining Day 1's. We're also told that he intends to speak with the gaming commission about the situation.

PokerNews has conducted a video interview with Singer regarding the controversy and it will be available for viewing momentarily. Stay tuned.

Interesting Table

There has been a swarm of media around table four for a while now and it's not hard to see why.

In seat 1 is Ross Boatman, member of the Hendon Mob, in seat 3 is J.J. Liu and in seat 9 is Patrik Antonius.

Also at the table is Sam Simon. Sam is the executive producer of "The Simpsons," a writer of "The Drew Carey Show" and was also formerly married to Jennifer Tilly.

Sam is in a bit of trouble at the moment as he has just taken a big hit when his top pair ran into quad sixes and he has only 4,000 left.

Matt Matros: Set or No Set?

Board:
{A-Clubs}{4-Spades}{K-Spades}

Three players limp in and Matt Matros checks in the big blind. The SB checks to Matros, who bets 2,000. An early-position player raises to 5,000 and a middle-position player and the small blind fold. Matros reraises all in for 40,000 total and the EP player says "A set of fours, huh?" He folds and Matros has 55,000.

Jane Gold Busts a Player

Jane Gold, mother of 2006 WSOP Champion Jamie Gold, knocked out a player. She opened up for a 1,200 raise. Her opponent reraised to 12K. She called. The flop was {K-Spades}{9-Spades}{6-Spades} and both players checked. The turn was the {Q-Clubs}. Her opponent bet 5K and she called. The river was the {10-Clubs}. Her opponent bet 2K, she raised to 10K. He called for 3K total and was all in. Her opponent flipped over {A-Spades}{Q-Hearts}. She tabled {10-Spades}{10-Diamonds} for a set of tens. She won the pot and sent her opponent to the rail.

Joseph Hachem Cracks Aces

Joe Hachem
Joe Hachem
2005 Main Event Champion Joseph Hachem just survived a crucial all-in when his {A-Hearts}{K-Diamonds} out-flopped the {A-Clubs}{A-Diamonds} of his opponent.

Jim Cleveborg, who had Hachem covered, moved all in from late position and Hachem called from the button. The flop was perfect for Hachem, coming down {10-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}{J-Hearts}. Cheers from his supporters were heard throughout the Amazon Room. His opponent needed a king to chop the pot, but it never came. Hachem doubled up to 30,000.

Double Double

Patrik Antonius and Shane Beckham have both managed to double up in the first few hands after the break. Patrik was in trouble and pushed all in preflop for his last 9,400 with {10-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}. He was called by an opponent holding {7-Clubs}{7-Hearts}.

The board ran out {A-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{2-Spades}{K-Diamonds}{10-Spades} and Patrik is back up to 26,000.

Shane has been on a rush, doubling up with a full house after he flopped a set of sixes and winning another nice pot with quad queens, he is now up to 47,000.

The Montel Williams Show

Montel Williams opened the pot with a raise to 2,000, an opponent moved all in for 33,725 and Williams called. Williams turned up A-K while his opponent tabled J-J. The flop was {A-Hearts}{10-Spades}{6-Hearts} pairing Williams's ace. The turn was the {6-Diamonds}, the river was the {4-Clubs}, and Williams dragged another huge pot, eliminating his opponent in the process.

Williams was up to 150,000 after the hand.
