Lee Lays it Down

A player in middle position bets 2,000 -- just 2 times the big blind -- and Lee Markholt on the button stares at the blinds. He calls, and the big blind puts in his extra 1,000 chip. The three players check the flop and turn. On the river, it's checked to the middle-position player who bets another 2,000. Markholt and the other player fold. Markholt is down to 27,000.

Floor!

Johnny Lodden's Table
Johnny Lodden's Table
A sticky hand broke out at Johnny Lodden's table, in which the dealer incorrectly awarded the pot to Lodden.

The board read x-K-10-J-x and both Lodden and his opponent checked the river.

At the showdown, Lodden's opponent turned over A-Q for a Broadway straight, while Lodden showed K-Q, for top pair and a busted straight draw.

The dealer mucked the A-Q and pushed the pot to Lodden, then proceeded to start shuffling the next hand. Players at the table called for the floor, who eventually ruled that Lodden must return the 23,600 pot to his opponent.

We should also note that there was a possible flush on the board, making Lodden's opponent's check on the river a legitimate one. A recently implemented rule here at the World Series states that if a player has last action and checks the absolute nuts, he would receive a one-round penalty for collusion.

Joe Awada Has Been Eliminated

Joe Awada
Joe Awada
Joe Awada opened with a standard raise from the button. The big blind reraised an additional 7,000. Awada made the call and the flop came {A-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}. The big blind led out for 10,000 and Awada pondered for a while. Finally Awada said "Oh well . . . it's getting late and I hate to play this late" and raised all in for 24,700 more. The big blind called and "Gentle" Joe showed {9-Clubs}{9-Hearts} which was in bad shape against the big blind's {A-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}. The turn and river missed Awada completely and he was eliminated.

A Cold Deck For Kenny Tran

Kenny Tran
Kenny Tran
Kenny Tran raises to 2,400 from late position. The button calls, as do the blinds. The flop comes {2-Spades}{6-Spades}{9-Hearts}. The blinds check and Tran bets 12,000. The button calls and the blinds pass. It's heads up to the turn. The turn card comes the {10-Spades}. Tran moves all in and the button insta-calls. Tran shows {9-Spades}{5-Spades}, but he's drawing dead to the {A-Spades}{3-Spades} of his opponent.

Mark Vos Eliminated

Mark Vos
Mark Vos
Mark Vos got off to an incredibly fast start today, building his stack up to as much as 100,000 at one point, but it was one of those easy come, easy go days for Vos, who was just eliminated from the tournament. Here's how it went down:

Vos made it 2,500 to go from the cutoff and the lone caller was the small blind.

The flop came 8-7-5 with two spades. The small blind checked to Vos who made it 4,000 to go. The small blind, who had Vos covered, moved all-in and Vos made the call.

The small blind showed {A-Spades}{3-Spades} for the nut flush draw, and Vos turned over {Q-Diamonds}{8-Hearts} for top pair. Vos dodged his opponent's outs on the turn, but the {K-Spades} fell on the river, which completed his opponent's flush and ended his tournament run.

Six Million Dollar River?

Like his namesake the six million dollar man, Steve Austin has managed to triumph against tough odds. After limping from under the gun, Austin called an all in bet made by the small blind on a flop of J-3-7. Holding A-J, Austin was in bad shape against the SB's J-7. Another Jack fell on the turn and Austin needed an Ace on the river to win, and . . . in super slow motion . . . an ace on the river duly fell.

The Jester Works His Magic

Jeff Madsen
Jeff Madsen
Jeff Madsen just won a big pot and increased his chip stack to about 65,000. Madsen had called flop and turn bets holding the nut flush draw. The river didn't bring his flush, but did bring an Ace giving Madsen top pair. He value bet the river and was called. Madsen showed the pair of aces and his opponent mucked.
