Bharat vs. Saul

Level 32 : 40,000/80,000, 10,000 ante

Since Paul Snead's exit it has been nothing but Lall Bharat and Kevin Saul going at it. The former has managed to get the best of the latter in two hands that allowed him to take over the chip lead.

In the first, Bharat limped from the small blind and then called when Saul raised to 230,000 in the big. Bharat then led out for 250,000 on the {7-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{J-Diamonds} flop, Saul called, and the {K-Clubs} turned. This time Bharat checked and it Saul bet 365,000. Bharat woke up with a check-raise to 800,000 and Saul quickly folded.

In another hand, Bharat raised to 225,000 from the button and Saul called from the small blind. Saul then check-called a bet of 250,000 on the {a-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds} flop before both players checked the {5-Spades} turn. Saul seized the initiative when the {7-Diamonds} peeled off on the river by betting 320,000, and Bharat called with the {K-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}. It was good as Saul could only muster the {K-Clubs}{J-Clubs}.

Paul Snead Eliminated in 4th Place ($65,096)

Level 32 : 40,000/80,000, 10,000 ante

After Lall Bharat opened with a raise to 225,000 from the button, Paul Snead took a look at his hand in the small blind and said he was reraising all in. At that Kevin Saul leaned forward, and Snead soon counted out his chips to show his bet was for 1.455 million total.

Saul thought for a while, then said he, too, was reraising all in, letting Bharat know as he did that his bet was for 3.815 million. Bharat didn't act right away, and Snead joked to Cory Waaland who'd stepped away from the table that Waaland was getting excited that he could be heads-up after the hand.

Finally Bharat gave his hand up, and Snead tabled {A-Clubs}{Q-Clubs} while Saul had {8-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}.

The dealer burned a card and spread the flop... {8-Spades}{8-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}! Quads for Saul, making the {2-Spades} turn and {K-Diamonds} just a couple of items of trivia as the hand had been decided.

Snead smiled and shook hands with the three remaining players while Bharat revealed he'd folded {9-}{9-}. "Why didn't you call!" said Waaland with a big grin, and with a laugh Saul echoed the same sentiment.

They are now down to three, with Saul out in front.

Bharat's Check-Raise Earns Him a Big Pot

Level 32 : 40,000/80,000, 10,000 ante

After Kevin Saul had limped from the button and Lall Bharat did the same from the small blind, Paul Snead accidentally folded from the big. That meant it was heads-up action to the {3-Spades}{a-Clubs}{9-Diamonds} flop, which saw Bharat check-call a bet of 90,000.

Bharat then check-called another bet on the {6-Diamonds} turn, this time 175,000, before checking for a third time on the {3-Hearts} river. Saul, who tends to think for awhile before making a decision, proceeded to slide out a big bet of 540,000. Bharat acted a bit more quickly and woke up with a check-raise to 1.3 million, and it was enough to get the job done as Saul released his hand.

Cory Collecting

Level 31 : 30,000/60,000, 10,000 ante

Cory Waaland has been collecting chips over the last few hands, including a few from Kevin Saul in consecutive hands.

The first saw Saul limping in from the small blind and Waaland checking the big blind, then both watching the flop come {3-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}. Saul bet 75,000, Waaland raised to 180,000, and Saul called. The turn then brought the {A-Hearts} and a check from Saul, and when Waaland bet 175,000, Saul folded.

Waaland showed his hand — {4-Spades}{3-Spades} — as he scooped the small pot.

The next hand saw Saul raising to 150,000 from the button and only Waaland coming along from the small blind. Both then checked the {4-Clubs}{3-Spades}{9-Hearts} flop, then the turn brought the {2-Diamonds}. Waaland checked, Saul bet 165,000, then Waaland check-raised to 420,000, forcing a half-minute of thinking followed by a fold from Saul.

Ben Reason Eliminated in 5th Place ($49,007)

Level 31 : 30,000/60,000, 10,000 ante
Ben Reason - 5th Place
Ben Reason - 5th Place

Ben Reason open-shipped for around 775,000 from the cutoff and cleared the field all the way to Lall Bharat. The man short in stature and tall in chips squeezed out his cards and must have liked what he saw as he made the call.

Bharat: {A-Diamonds}{J-Clubs}
Reason: {4-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}

Reason got it in good and was looking good through the {3-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{3-Spades} flop, but his lead diminished when the {J-Spades} peeled off on the turn. The {8-Clubs} river failed to help Reason and he was sent packing in fifth place for $49,007.

Bobby Corcione Eliminated in 6th Place ($37,356)

Level 31 : 30,000/60,000, 10,000 ante

It took multiple hands for Bobby Corcione's elimination in sixth place to come, with nearly all of his chips taken in a huge hand involving himself and Kevin Saul.

That hand began with an open-raise to 140,000 by Corcione from under the gun and a call from the big blind by Saul. The flop came {6-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{7-Spades}, and Saul led with a bet of 155,000. Corcione responded by raising to 455,000, and after studying the situation for a short while Saul announced he was pushing all in over the top.

As Corcione contemplated what to do next, Saul's stack was counted and by eyeing Corcione's remaining chips. Saul said it appeared his opponent had him barely covered in the hand.

Finally Corcione did call, turning over {A-Diamonds}{A-Spades}. Meanwhile, Saul had {K-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} for both straight and flush draws.

The turn was the {J-Spades}, and Corcione's aces were still hanging on. But the river brought the {J-Diamonds} and shouts from the onlooking crowd. Saul had made a flush, catapulting back up close to 3 million while Corcione was left with but 10,000 chips — i.e., one single ante.

Corcione managed to survive the next hand, sextupling up to 60,000. But he was soon all in again from the small blind with {K-Spades}{4-Clubs} versus Cory Waaland's {8-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}, and when the board ran out {9-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{J-Spades}{5-Spades}, the river five gave Waaland the hand.

One of our two remaining 21st-place WSOP Main Event finishers has been eliminated, with Corcione (who took 21st in 2012) now out and Snead (who finished 21st in 2008) still left. Just five players remain, with Saul now the chip leader.

Ethan Foulkes Eliminated in 7th Place ($28,664)

Level 31 : 30,000/60,000, 10,000 ante

Paul Snead opened for 165,000 under the gun and action folded around to Ethan Foulkes on the button. He opted to shove for 640,000, the blinds folded, and Snead made a quick call.

Snead: {A-Hearts}{K-Hearts}
Foulkes: {q-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}

Most of the players, including Snead and Foulkes, were on their feet for the race. Snead literally shook his head when the {2-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{7-Hearts} flop failed to give him much, and the {4-Diamonds} turn inspired Kevin Saul to root for his friend's survival by shouting, "Pair the board."

"Five, ace or king," Snead countered. Ask and ye shall receive as the {A-Clubs} spiked. Snead hit a bullet on the river to eliminate Foulkes, the same turn of events that had happened less than a half an hour before in Stephen Dare's elimination.

Waaland Waylays Foulkes with the Old Jack-Deuce

Level 31 : 30,000/60,000, 10,000 ante

Well, things have certainly livened up around here at the final table at the first ever WSOP Circuit Main Event at Foxwoods. After more than two hours without an elimination, we've now seen a couple of huge double-ups and two eliminations in the space of just an orbit or so.

Just now came the latest eyebrow-raising hand, this one starting quietly with the table folding around to Ethan Foulkes in the small blind. As Foulkes was slow to recognize the action was on him, the big blind Cory Waaland took the opportunity to interject a question.

"Do I get a walk?" he asked hopefully, and Foulkes finally took a peek at his cards. No, Waaland was not getting a walk, as Foulkes decided to raise to 175,000.

The action on Waaland, he said he was reraising all in for his entire stack of nearly 1.1 million, and Foulkes snap-called, turning over {A-Clubs}{J-Spades}.

Foulkes grinned sheepishly, uttering variations of "uh oh" as he tabled his hand — {J-Hearts}{2-Hearts}! A true hand-in-the-cookie-jar moment for Waaland, and he stood alongside Foulkes to see the dealer deliver the flop.

Out came the first three community cards... {2-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}!

The crowd watching on immediately reacted, and Waaland was beside himself. Then the turn brought the {10-Clubs}, leading to Foulkes asking the dealer to provide one more club and a winning flush for him.

The dealer indeed produced a club on fifth street... the {J-Clubs}! Waaland had somehow drawn a full house with his jack-deuce to win a pot of about 2.2 million.

"This game is sick," said Paul Snead with a big grin.

"This game is f---ing great!" said Waaland.
