We've got one full level in the books, and we need to color up those pesky black T100 chips. We'll be back in 10 minutes when play resumes.
2010-11 World Series of Poker Circuit - Harrah's New Orleans
First into the pot from the cutoff, Alejandro Garcia made it 13,000 to go, and Dwyte Pilgrim defended his big blind with a call.
Heads up, the flop brought , and Pilgrim check-called a bet of 11,000. It was most of Garcia's remaining stack, and the last few chips went into the pot after the turn. The hands turned over surprised everyone. It was Pilgrim with the , but his set was second-best to Garcia's .
A blank on the river doubles Garcia up to about 55,000. Pilgrim must be relieved to have gotten involved with a short stack in that hand; the cooler only takes about a quarter of his stack, leaving him with 105,000 now.
Phong Ly opened to 7,500 from the hijack seat, and Matt Waxman three-bet to 18,500 right next door. One seat over from that reraise came a four-bet shove for 57,700 from Curtis Simpson. Ly quickly folded, but Waxman toyed with the thought of being priced in before making the reluctant call.
Showdown
Waxman:
Simpson:
Waxman picked up a wheel draw on the turn, but the board was ultimately safe for Simpson's overpair. He's earned himself a big double to about 125,000, knocking Waxman down to 140,000 in the process.
We'll resist making one final pun with Adam Levy's name, and it's our last chance. Beginning the day with a short stack, "Roothlus" has been put out of his misery here early on Day 2. In the hijack seat, Levy looked down at and shoved in for about 40,000. Small blind Douglas Lang made the call with , and Levy was looking to double back into contention.
The flop was a bad one for his kings, though, and the turn and river failed to save his tournament life. He's out, and we've got 63 players left.
In a battle of the blinds, Lance Craig raised before Keith Crowder shoved all in for about 50,000 total. The stacks were very close, and Craig made the call with his racing against Crowder's .
Craig's horse ran the fastest as the board came , and Crowder is left with less than 1,000 chips after coming up short on that flip.
Action is hard to come by here in the early going. Adam "Roothlus" Levy was down around ten big blinds when Alejandro Garcia opened with a raise from middle position. Levy shoved for an additional 24,000, and Garcia elected to surrender and let Levy take it down.
He's back to 42,000 now, but still very much in the danger zone.
With the action folded around to his hijack seat, Douglas Friedmutter open-shoved for his last 33,200. Right next door, Melih Birdal reraised all in over the top, and the two men were heads up as the cards were turned up:
Friedmutter:
Birdal:
"Well, I got outs," Friedmutter said in a good case of foreshadowing. The dealer ripped off a flop to pull him into a big lead, and the turn and river locked up his double. He's up to 75,000 now with many thanks to that timely ace.
Level: 17
Blinds: 1,500/3,000
Ante: 400
Welcome to PokerNews' Day 2 coverage of the World Series of Poker Circuit Main Event at Harrah's New Orleans. A field of 382 came to play yesterday and after 16 levels, only 70 remain with hopes of becoming the next circuit Main Event Champion. Valuable seats are still on the line for the 100-player WSOP-C National Championship as well and today will go a long way in determining just who might be there.
Leading the way into Day 2 is Mario "Pwnasaurus" Silvestri with 371,500. The only other player with more than 300,000 is Allie Prescott and there are many other notables still in the hunt as well. Matthew Waxman, Michael Traylor, Dwyte Pilgrim, and Mike Beasley are in the top 20 chip counts, so today will certainly be a test for all who make it through to the final table.
Play is slated to kick off in about 25 minutes, so we'll see you at the top of the hour.
