Berg Busts an Opponent

Elijah Berg moved all in to put his opponent at risk on the flop of {J-Clubs} {9-Hearts} {5-Hearts}. His opponent called after committing a little over half of his chips to the pot in preflop action. Berg held top pair with {K-Hearts} {J-Spades}. His opponent had just ace high with {A-Hearts} {10-Clubs}.

The turn was the {9-Diamonds} and the river the {3-Hearts} to give Berg the elimination and a nice boost to his stack. He now has around 35,000 chips.

The Proverbial Two Birds

Al Riccobono - Eliminated
Al Riccobono - Eliminated
Under the gun, Al Riccobono limped into the pot for 600. The only problem was that the blinds were 4-800. When the dealer pointed out his mistake, Riccobono innocently added the extra 200 to his call. Will "The Thrill" Failla was next, and he moved all in for about 8,500. Action came to Sheree Bykofsky, and she announced a re-raise, putting out 17,000 chips. When it got back to Riccobono, he moved all in for a total of 38,000. Bykofsky called, putting two players at risk of elimination.

Showdown:
Riccobono: {A-?} {A-?}
Failla: {A-?} {9-?}
Bykofsky: {Q-?} {Q-?}

Lightning struck on the flop as the dealer peeled off a third {Q-?}, vaulting Bykofsky into the lead. The rest of the board failed to help either of the all-in players, and Bykofsky's set of queens took down this huge pot.

With one blow, she eliminates two dangerous players, chipping herself way up; she is dangerously close to the 100,000-chip mark now.

On This Day...

Date: June 10th, 2008
Location: Amazon Room, Rio, Las Vegas

Amidst a flurry of action at the World Series of Poker, there were two final tables running. The first was the $1,000 Ladies Event. Svetlana Gromenkova outlasted a field of 1,190 lovely ladies to capture the gold bracelet. Up next was the $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em Shootout. That event drew an even 1,000 players, and it was Jason Young storming to the top to take home his first bracelet.

Fast forward nine months almost to the day. Both players are in our field here at Caesars, and with a recent table break, they are now seated together. The WSOP-C motto of "First the ring, then the bracelet," isn't exactly the route that these two chose. Now though, they're looking to add to their bling factor by picking up the smaller but still highly-coveted gold circuit ring.

Apart from those two, there are just two other bracelet winners remaining: Mike Sica and Cliff "JohnnyBax" Josephy.

Gazes Busts Butler

Rhett Butler - Eliminated
Rhett Butler - Eliminated
On the last hand before the break, Bill Gazes was in the tank on a board of {8-Hearts} {9-Hearts} {2-Spades} {6-Hearts}. Rhett Butler had moved all in for 8,425 and after a few minutes Gazes called with {7-Clubs} {7-Hearts}. Butler was ahead with {J-Hearts} {J-Spades}, but the river was the {5-Clubs} and Gazes made a winning straight.

He is up to 83,000 while Rhett Butler has hit the rail.

Young Slips Some More

Jason Young led the flop of {A-Diamonds} {9-Spades} {8-Diamonds} into two opponents for 1,000. Both players made the call.

The turn brought the {A-Hearts} and Young checked. Both players checked behind him.

The river was the {2-Spades} and Young checked. The second player checked before the final player bet out 6,000 -- a pretty hefty bet at that. Young took a few moments before making the call. The other player folded.

Young was shown {A-Spades} {7-Spades} by his opponent. "I flopped two pair," claimed Young as he mucked his hand.
