Sirzat Hissou

On a board reading AA109, Jeffrey Cormier and Sirzat Hissou were heads-up in a pot of around 1,000,000 chips. Cormier led out with a bet of 400,000 and Hissou double-fisted two stacks of chips into the middle, which was met with a snap-call from Cormier for his stack of 1,160,000.

Jeffrey Cormier: 1010All in
Sirzat Hissou: A9

Cormier flopped a full house but Hissou turned a bigger one, leaving Cormier drawing to just a single out. The river was the 6 and Cormier was left shaking his head while Hissou has now taken over the chip lead.

Song Bricks Out

Level 15 : Blinds 25,000/50,000, 50,000 ante

Action folded to Stephen Song in the hijack, and he raised all in for 325,000. It then folded to the big blind Roland Rokita who made the call.

Stephen Song: KJ All in
Roland Rokita: A5

It was a fair fight but Song would need to improve past the ace high of Rokita to stay in the tournament. The board ran out Q71067 and the ace high of Rokita was still best, giving him the pot and eliminating Song.

Music Icon & Bracelet Winner Steve Albini's Death Puts Fabled 20-Year Poker Home Game on Pause

Level 15 : Blinds 25,000/50,000, 50,000 ante
Steve Albini
Steve Albini

The death of musician, recording engineer and poker player Steve Albini hit the music world with a force like that of the incendiary device aimed at Earth pictured on Big Black's 1986 debut album Atomizer. It may have hit one group of Chicago poker players the hardest.

Albini, a two-time World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet winner who recorded landmark works by bands like Nirvana and Pixies and who The New York Times described as "one of the most admired, and most divisive, figures in rock," was a key figure in a friend group that bonded, joked and supported one another over the poker table. For 20 years, they played in a weekly low-stakes Chicago home game often held in Electrical Audio that included bracelet winners like Jason Gola, Eric Rodawig and Brian Hastings. Now, the game is on hiatus after Albini's death in May as the group of poker pros, musicians and audio engineers adapts to a world without its figurehead.

PokerNews spoke with two of Albini's closest friends who were regulars in the game, Brandon Shack-Harris and Andrew Kosinski.

Van Lent Takes From Koon

Level 15 : Blinds 25,000/50,000, 50,000 ante

Jason Koon raised to 100,000 from early position, which was called by Anuschka Van Lent in the small blind, and the big blind Derric Haynie.

After the J44 flop, Van Lent decided to lead out for a bet of 100,000. Haynie folded, and Koon made the call.

The turn brought the 3 and Van Lent check-called a bet of 375,000 from Koon.

After the 5 on the river, Lent again took the betting lead, firing out 100,000.

Koon used the majority of his time bank and said, "Okay, two-pair, I just call." Van Lent turned over KJ for two pair, jacks and fours, which was good to take the pot as Koon mucked his hand.

As Van Lent scooped the pot, Koon said, "I almost value-shoved there."
