The cards are officially in the air as the tournament director has announced for the dealers to shuffle up and deal.
On the first hand of the day, action folded to Dylan Linde who limped in from the small blind. Jonathan Newman then raised to 8,000 in the big blind and Linde folded.
"Chip leader," Newman said.
"Cash out," a tablemate told him.
The next hand, Deer Kim raised to 6,000 in the cutoff, Newman three-bet to 28,000 in the small blind, and Kim called.
The flop came J♠9♣4♣ and Newman bet 18,000. Kim called and the 10♥ fell on the turn. Newman slowed down and checked, and Kim bet 23,000.
Newman called to the A♥ river, where he led out with 130,000. Kim snap-called and Newman showed K♣10♣ for a pair of tens. Kim turned over J♦J♥ for a set to take down the first big pot of the day.

Artyom Smatyan opened 4,000 in the hijack and John Duthie called on the button.
The dealer fanned a flop of A♦7♦4♥, and Smatyan continued for 6,000. Duthie made the call.
When the K♥ hit the turn, Smatyan stayed aggressive as 16,000 crossed the line. Duthie stuck around with a call.
The board completed with the 7♠ on the river and Smatyan slowed down with a check. Duthie took about 30 seconds, while putting his glasses on and rechecking his cards. Eventually, he fired a bet of 100,000 into the middle and Smatyan snap-mucked.

On the A♠A♣3♣ flop, Hum continued for 5,000 before Rizzo check-raised to 15,000 and Hum put in the call.
The turn brought to 4♠. Rizzo fired again for 20,000 and Hum quickly called.
The 9♠ river quickly checked through as Rizzo tabled A♥6♠ for trip aces which were good enough to drag an early pot.
