The field has dwindled to just 211 players, only four players off the money. The tournament staff have sent players on a scheduled 60-minute dinner break, much to the dismay of the players.
Play will resume at about 8 p.m.
Here is a look at some highlights from the previous two levels:
In the 869th episode of the PokerNews Podcast, sponsored by the free-to-play WSOP App, Chad Holloway hosts from down in The Bahamas at the 2024 World Series of Poker Paradise, while Kyna England is back at Level 9 Studio in Las Vegas. Mike Holtz is out with a broken ankle, so Nikki Limo was kind enough to once again fill in as a special co-host.
Together, they discuss happening at the WSOP Paradise, the World Poker Tour (WPT) World Championship at the Wynn Las Vegas, and the European Poker Tour (EPT) Prague. That includes Phil Hellmuth making an appearance, the new stage at WSOP, and the Triton Million, which was won by Argentinean rapper Alejandro Lococo for $12 million.
Chad also had the honor of bringing the Women in Poker Hall of Fame trophy down with him to present to Kristen Foxen. In this episode, you can check out her acceptance speech, which PokerNews helped film. Speaking of the WiPHoF, Jeanne David was another inductee and she had a spot of luck drawing a Golden Passport into the ClubWPT Gold $5,000,000 Freeroll, which kicks off today!
At the EPT Prague, Thomas Santerne has already won two side event titles, while the 2022 WSOP Main Event champ, Espen Jorstad, took down the €25K Super High Roller Warm-Up for his first EPT title.
Oh, and we'll also let you know what Phil Ivey is up to as he's been seen double dipping at both the WSOP Paradise and WPT World Championship, including a planned holiday meet-up game (MUG) at the latter.
What is a player to do when they love tournament poker, their mind allows them to compete against the best of the best, but their body doesn’t want to cooperate? That’s a question “Texas” Mike Moncek, who suffers from a heart condition, asked himself Wednesday night after playing in the 2024 World Series of Poker (WSOP) ParadiseEvent #7: $100,000 Triton Main Event.
The tournament, which is being live reported by PokerNews, attracted 182 entrants and offered up an $18,200,000 prize pool. On Day 2, a little over 40 players remained when Texas Mike, in his own words, “punted.”
The tournament staff have opted to go hand-for-hand upon returning from dinner break. For each hand played, two minutes will be taken off the clock. There are currently 211 players remaining and play will conclude for the evening when just 207 players remain.
There was a raise to 160,000 from under the gun and Francisco Caballo Pena shoved all in for 1,150,000 in the cutoff. Greg Ostrander also pushed all in for his last 650,000 in the big blind, forcing the original raiser out.
Greg Ostrander: J♠J♣
Francisco Caballo Pena: A♣A♦
The flop came 8♠3♠2♠ and Ostrander picked up a flush draw to make things a little sweaty. However, the 9♣ and 7♦ runout changed nothing and Pena was eliminated.
Stanislav Zegal opened the action with a raise in the cutoff and Santhosh Suvarna three-bet shoved in the small blind for 540,000, putting himself at risk. Zegal made the call.
Santhosh Suvarna: A♥Q♠
Stanislav Zegal: A♦8♣
The board of 2♠6♥4♥A♣9♥ ran out clean for Suvarna, securing him the double up.
Orpen Kisacikoglu opened to 160,000 from under the gun and Aram Oganyan called from the big blind. The flop came 10♠10♣6♣ and Oganyan checked to Kisacikoglu who just ripped all in. Oganyan called off his stack of 825,000 and the cards were tabled.
Aram Oganyan: A♦10♦
Orpen Kisacikoglu: 8♣4♣
Kisacikoglu held a flush draw but the 6♠ on the turn ended all hopes as Oganyan filled up. The insignificant 9♠ hit the river and Oganyan collected a double up.
It took a couple of preflop raises for all the chips to go in the middle and this was a big one with all things considered. Hannes Jeschka found himself at risk for 1,845,000 in the hijack and was up against one of the big stacks in Eric Yanovsky in the small blind.
Hannes Jeschka: A♣Q♣
Eric Yanovsky: K♣7♣
The flop came K♥10♦7♠ and Yanovsky spiked two pair to take a big lead. The A♠ on the turn gave Jeschka some more outs and it was the J♦ on the river that made his straight to stay alive.
