Wantman Leaves Cowen Short

Level 14 : Blinds 3,000/5,000, 5,000 ante

Robert Cowen raised to 10,000 and then quickly called the shove by Matthew Wantman for 62,000 from two seats over.

It was a classic flip with the AJ for Wantman and the 88 of Cowen. The 976 flop and 9 turn left Wantman on the ropes but the J river provided the necessary help.

Istomin is Chasing the Big Stacks

Level 15 : Blinds 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante

Heads-up to the A76Q turn, David D'Alessandro bet 21,000 in the big blind. Aleksei Istomin then raised to 61,000 on the button and that sent his opponent into the tank. D'Alessandro fiddled with calling chips but ultimately ended up folding.

"Why did you change your mind?" Istomin inquired in the table chat but received no clear answer.

D'Alessandro is one of two bigger stacks on the same table behind Ljubomir Josipovic but Istomin may close the gap soon if he continues to trend upwards.

Nguyen Gets Paid by Mao

Level 15 : Blinds 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante

On the tail end of a 744KJ board, Minh Nguyen fired a bet of 65,000 and Renji Mao called to get shown the A9 for the ace-high flush. Mao shook his head in frustration and tossed the cards with force into the muck.

Nguyen has further cemented his status as one of the chip leaders with now 150 players remaining. Only 98 of them are set to advance to the money stages on Day 2.

Ruivo on the Right End of a Cold Deck

Level 15 : Blinds 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante

Renan Meneguetti opened in middle position to 10,000 before the action moved to Manuel Ruivo in the small blind who put in a cold three-bet to 35,000. Action was then on Henrique Lessa in the big blind who took a moment and then four-bet ripped it for 161,000 which was Ruivo's effective stack.

Meneguetti quickly got out of the way and Ruivo snapped.

Manuel Ruivo: KK
Henrique Lessa: QQ

The full board ran out 283JK and Lessa would send a pile of chips over to Ruivo after some blind versus blind carnage.

Yates Yeets It In; Josipovic Collects

Level 15 : Blinds 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
Ljubomir Josipovic
Ljubomir Josipovic

Ljubomir Josipovic opened to 15,000 and was called by David D'Alessandro on the button. Behind them, Greg Yates raised big out of a stack of around 140,000 and Josipovic quickly tossed in his big T-25,000 chips, D'Alessandro folded. Yates was then officially all-in and they turned them over.

Greg Yates: 55
Ljubomir Josipovic: AK

The K63 flop improved Josipovic to a pair of kings while Yates picked up a gutshot on the 7 turn. Nothing changed with the 6 river and Josipovic added even more chips to his growing tower.

Recent Casualties on Day 1c

Level 15 : Blinds 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante

Kyna England, Natasha Mercier, Allan Mello, Luis Dono and Ivan Deyra were just some of those who recently departed. Near the end of level 15, the field has been reduced to 137 hopefuls and the money bubble may take at least another two levels to unfold.

Fergenbaum and Istomin Knocked out

Level 15 : Blinds 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
Matthew Fergenbaum
Matthew Fergenbaum

Matthew Fergenbaum jammed pocket fours with a short stack and Jessica Teusl just called out of the small blind. Aleksei Istomin jammed over the top and Teusl snap-called with the KK, catching Istomin with the inferior 88. The board was all paint and Istomin saw his stack reduced to fumes.

Soon after, Istomin raised to 20,000 with 1,000 behind and Ljubomir Josipovic called.

The A108 flop saw Istomin all-in with the AQ and Josipovic had pulled ahead with the 108. Nothing changed with the 4 turn and 6 river, sending Istomin to the rail as well.

Josipovic added further chips after to nearly reach seven figures.
