Up to 61 Entries

Level 8 : 0/0, 6,000 ante

The HKD1,000,000 SHort Deck Ante-Only Event is only two entries shy of the No Limit Hold'em Main Event with another 90 minutes of registration remaining. The latest player to join again after having busted on Day 1 was Chan Yan Pan and he sat down next to Devan Tang.

At that very time, Tang had bet 200,000 from the cutoff on the river of a board {K-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{Q-Spades}{8-Spades}. Paul Phua eventually called from under the gun and Tang turned over the {A-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}, which Phua had beat with {K-Spades}{Q-Diamonds} for two pair. Despite this small setback, Tang is still up for the day.

The All In Bonanza Continues

Level 8 : 0/0, 6,000 ante

Dan Cates chipped up further while Wai Kin Yong entered and Xuan Tan re-entered. Tan didn't take long to get his third bullet in, this time with the {J-Hearts}{10-Hearts}. Paul Phua looked him up with the {K-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds}, the board came {A-Spades}{J-Hearts}{8-Spades}{Q-Spades}{7-Hearts}.

Phua then open-shoved the cutoff and Tom Dwan called all in for 194,000 on the button with {Q-Spades}{J-Clubs}. Phua only had {A-Diamonds}{8-Hearts} and the board came {K-Spades}{J-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{Q-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}.

Yong shipped it in for some 270,000 with the {A-Clubs}{10-Spades} from the cutoff and was called by Wai Leong Chan with the {A-Hearts}{Q-Spades}. The board came {Q-Clubs}{J-Spades}{7-Spades}{A-Spades}{9-Hearts} and Yong had to reload another bullet.

Next Bullet for Cao

Level 8 : 0/0, 6,000 ante

Gabe Patgorski limped in first to act and so did Paul Phua. Rui Cao moved all in for 154,000 and Patgorski jammed over the top for 280,000, Phua folded.

Rui Cao: {K-Hearts}{Q-Spades}
Gabe Patgorski: {A-Diamonds}{A-Clubs}

The board came {8-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{6-Hearts} and Cao dusted off the first bullet. He then got it in for 94,000 with {Q-Hearts}{J-Hearts} against Jason Koon's {A-Hearts}{9-Hearts} and got there on a board of {Q-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{J-Spades}{10-Spades}.

Dan Cates joined the mix and doubled with {7-Hearts}{7-Clubs} versus Wang Qiang's {A-Hearts}{J-Hearts}. There was an ace on the flop, but the {7-Diamonds} on the river came to the rescue.

And just like that, within just over 20 minutes, the field size has increased to 59 entries.

Andrew Robl - Elton Tsang
Andrew Robl - Elton Tsang

Paul Phua scored a big double through Gabe Patgorski to jump up to more than a million while Tom Dwan doubled his first bullet through Jaime Staples with {A-Hearts}{10-Hearts} versus {K-Diamonds}{K-Clubs} on a board of {Q-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{Q-Spades}.

Ivan Leow doubled for 162,000 with {J-Clubs}{8-Clubs} against Xuan Tan's {K-Hearts}{K-Clubs}, spiking a straight flush on the {A-Diamonds}{A-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{9-Clubs} board.

Elton Tsang doubled for around 250,000 with {K-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts} after cracking the {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Spades} of Andrew Robl, the board came {K-Hearts}{J-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{8-Spades}.

Last but not least, Tan got the remainder of his stack in with {A-Clubs}{6-Spades} and Wai Leong Chan called with the {J-Spades}{10-Spades}. The board ran out {Q-Diamonds}{J-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{8-Spades}{Q-Clubs}.

Dwan Joins; Sass Re-Enters

Level 8 : 0/0, 6,000 ante
Tom Dwan
Tom Dwan

Down to his last bullet of 100,000, Alan Sass got it in with the {A-Diamonds}{9-Hearts} on a flop of {A-Spades}{K-Hearts}{9-Clubs}. Marius Torbergsen called with the {A-Clubs}{Q-Hearts} and the {Q-Clubs} turn immediately improved the Norwegian. The blank {7-Clubs} river changed nothing anymore and Sass headed for another entry.

Tom Dwan also jumped in for the first time to increase the field to 52 entries.

Who Will Win the Second-Ever Short Deck Ante-Only Live Event in Montenegro?

Jason Koon sits in second place for Day 2
Jason Koon sits in second place for Day 2

The second-ever Short Deck Ante-Only live tournament has created a field of 50 entries (including 18 re-entries) so far, all ponying up the buy-in of HKD1,000,000 ($132,000) at the Maestral Resort & Casino in the final event of the 2018 Triton Super High Roller Series in Budva, Montenegro.

All deuces through to fives are removed from the traditional deck of 52 cards, the game plays with a deck of 36 and flushes beat full houses, while the aces also doubles as a five. The action-packed game further increased the aggressive playing style thanks to the six-max format and the vast majority of participants preferred to fire the stack of 300,000 as three single bullets of 100,000 each.

While only 13 players survived the carnage of the seven 60-minute levels on Day 1, the final day of the high stakes festival won't be over in a hurry with hundreds of antes at disposal upon restart at 3 p.m. local time. Late registration remains open for another two levels and the field is expected to grow further, it may in fact even surpass the 63 entries of the HKD1,000,000 No Limit Hold'em Main Event. When the registration has officially closed, the remaining unused 100,000 bullets will be redeemed all at once.

Leading the field into Day 2 after using just a single bullet so far is China's Devan Tang with 2,300,000. Jason Koon, who already finished fourth in the HKD250,000 Short Deck Ante-Only here in Montenegro, sits in second place with 1,810,000 and four other players advanced with more than one million in chips in Wang Qiang (1,490,000), Main Event third-place finisher Peter Jetten (1,451,000), Jaime Kaplan (1,401,000) and HKD250,000 Short Deck Ante-Only champion Phil Ivey (1,083,000).

The other Day 1 survivors also include Marius Torbergsen (985,000), Andrew Robl (887,000), Gabe Patgorski (750,000), Triton co-founder Paul Phua (610,000), Xuan Tan (421,000), Wai Leong Chan (213,000) and Alan Sass (100,000).

Among those to be expected to likely join the action again on Day 2 are Richard Yong, Mikita Badziakouski, Rui Cao, Dan Cates and Tom Dwan. Action gets back underway with an ante of 6,000 and button double ante of 12,000. The live stream with English commentary by Kane Kalas and Randy Lew will kick off after the first break of the day at around 5.10 p.m. local time and the PokerNews live reporting team will be on the floor to provide all the action until a champion is crowned.
