"The Day of the Businessman"

Level 10 : 8,000/16,000, 3,000 ante
Paul Phua
Paul Phua

Paul Phua raised to 35,000 from the cutoff and Mustapha Kanit called form the big blind.

The flop came {k-Diamonds}{q-Spades}{j-Hearts} and Kanit checked. Phua asked Kanit how much he had, and Kanit told him he started the hand with 223,000. Phua then continued for 40,000, and Kanit check-raised all in for 188,000. Phua quickly called.

"Two pair," Kanit announced. "You're in trouble," Phua told him as he tabled {k-Spades}{q-Diamonds}. Kanit turned over {k-Hearts}{j-Spades}, an he would need help from the the deck.

The turn was the {4-Hearts}, and the river the {a-Spades}. Phua won with his two pair, kings and queens, and Kanit was eliminated.

"It's the day of the businessman," Phua said with a smile as he stacked his new chips.

Mustapha Kanit Doubles Through Cary Katz

Level 11 : 10,000/20,000, 3,000 ante

The action is all going through Cary Katz right now, but he couldn't score another knockout.

He limped in and called after Mustapha Kanit shoved for 71,000 total. "It's cheap," said the Italian as he shoved. Kanit had {K-Hearts}{K-Diamonds}, "Wow you have a real hand," said Katz as he showed {A-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}. There was to be no outdraw this time though as the {9-Clubs}{J-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{3-Hearts} board kept Kanit in front.

Elton Tsang Eliminated by Cary Katz

Level 10 : 8,000/16,000, 3,000 ante
Elton Tsang
Elton Tsang

A three-part chronicle led to Elton Tsang's elimination...

Part one: It folded to Cary Katz in the small blind and he limped. Quick as a flash Elton Tsang moved his stack over the line in the manner of someone who'd just won €11,111,111 and was having a good week. Katz tanked and then said: "Alright, I call."

"Wow," said Tsang as he showed {A-Spades}{6-Hearts}, he thought he was behind, but Katz had {K-Spades}{J-Hearts}. The {5-Spades}{J-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{7-Diamonds} board favoured Katz though. He was all-in for 195,000.

Part two: Talal Shakerchi raised to 34,000, Cary Katz flat called and upon learning there was a raise and call in front of him Elton Tsang moved all-in for 111,000 with {A-Spades}{5-Spades}, Shakerchi called with {A-Hearts}{3-Hearts} and Katz folded. The {A-Clubs}{2-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{Q-Clubs} board meant the pot was chopped.

Part three: Cary Katz made it 32,000 to go, Elton Tsang shoved for 164,000 total and, when it folded back to Katz, he called.

Tsang: {A-Spades}{J-Hearts}
Katz: {K-Clubs}{Q-Hearts}

Yet again Katz was behind, but the {Q-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{10-Clubs}{7-Spades} run out meant he won the pot. "I had to get it in bad twice to knock the champ out," said Katz and indeed Tsang, who yesterday won the Big One For One Drop, will not be doing the double here in Monte Carlo.

Paul Phua vs. Mikia Badziakouski

Level 9 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante

Action folded around to Paul Phua in the small blind, and he put in a min-raise to 24,000. Mikita Badziakouski called from the big blind.

The flop fell {7-Spades}{5-Hearts}{4-Diamonds} and Phua checked. Badziakouski bet 18,000 and Phua called. Both players checked the {j-Clubs} on the turn and the river was the {9-Hearts}. Phua led out for 20,000 and Badziakouski called.

Phua turned over {a-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}, and Badziakouski mucked his cards.

Double Knock Out!

Level 9 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante
Tom Marchese
Tom Marchese

From the cutoff, Tom Marchese shoved all in for 152,000. His neighbor Paul Phua on the button over shoved and small blind Andrew Robl went into the tank. After 3 minutes or so, he called all in for 147,000.

"Oh wow" big blind Mustapha Kanit exclaimed.

"I was in." he continued, meaning he was going to call until Robl had called all in.

Kanit eventually folded, claiming to throw nines into the muck.

Andrew Robl: {8-Diamonds}{8-Spades}
Paul Phua: {A-Clubs}{J-Hearts}
Tom Marchese: {6-Hearts}{6-Clubs}

The board ran out {9-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}{4-Clubs} and Marchese and Robl hit the rail.
