Welcome to the 2024 Sunbet Poker Tour Time Square Main Event August Edition
At noon local time, the local poker community here in South Africa will once again be heading to the Time Square Casino Pretoria for what shapes up to be one of the largest live poker events in the country in 2024. The SunBet Poker Tour (SPT) returns for a second time to the same venue after the previous stop in Spring. Held in cooperation between the Monster Jam Poker Tour (MJPT) and South African Hotels, Gaming and Entertainment Group Sun International, it is already the sixth season for this live poker series.
In March 2024, Sugen Singh topped a field of 418 entries after a three-way deal and took home the trophy as well as second-largest piece of the cash prize pool. Singh, one of many regulars here in South Africa, cashed for ZAR 707,675 ($38,214) whereas "SM" and MAJ" also split the largest slice of ZAR5,266,800 ($281,989) in prize money.

The ZAR15,000 (~$790) buy-in for the flagship Main Event remains the same with a guarantee of ZAR4,000,000, but the number of starting days has increased from your to five. It has already been a very successful and busy series so far, as the ZAR5,000 Little Slam set a new attendance record. This is a very promising sign for the days to come in which the SPT Time Square Main Event will take the centre stage.
All players start their journey with 40,000 in chips and three of the five available Day 1 flights have a level duration of 50 minutes each including Day 1a, Day 1b, and Day 1d. The third flight will commence on Thursday, August 8, at 6pm and play out ten levels of 40 minutes before bagging and tagging. Action then resumes the following day at 11 a.m. local time simultaneously with the last regular heat. Last but not least, Day 1e features a 30-minute level duration during the registration period and 15 minutes thereafter.
The five flights all have the same main goal: Complete 15 levels or down to the top 15% of each field, whichever comes first. In the previous edition here at Time Square, none of the Day 1 flights had to finish early and Day 2 restarted not far away from the money bubble.

Many of the big names may not be in action for Day 1a at noon today just yet, as the ZAR50,000 High Roller is on Day 2 as of 11 a.m. local time as well. It will play down to a final table for tomorrow's grand finale with all of the action set to be live-streamed on the MJPT YouTube channels as well.
The PokerNews live reporting team will be on the tournament floor to provide live updates from all flights with main focus on those with regular duration. Chip counts of all heats and the final result of the High Roller will be published as well.
