A new first-time champion has been crowned during the 2020 PokerStars Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP) and the hot streak for Dutch poker players continues as Teun "tinnoemulder" Mulder rode to victory in under four hours in SCOOP-33-H: $10,300 NLHE PKO High Roller after defeating Niklas "Lena900" Astedt in heads-up.

It was the far-biggest cash for Mulder and he adds $278,785.25 in bounty and cash prizes to his bankroll after defeating a field of 117 entries, which contained some of the biggest names of the online poker world and created a prize pool of $1,170,000. While the Dutchman may not be as prolific on the live poker circuit yet, he has already cashed for more than $3 million in MTT's online of which more than $2 million are recorded under his moniker "tinnoemulder" on PokerStars.

It took fewer than four hours to reduce the 15 Day 1 survivors to a winner and Mulder had to overcome 10 former SCOOP champions of which seven made it to the final table. Andras "probirs" Nemeth led the field into the final day and retained the top spot ahead of Thomas "WushuTM" Muehloecker when the final table of the last nine was formed within half an hour of play. Nemeth was unable to score a third SCOOP title and finished third, Muehloecker had to settle for fourth place.

Frantic Early Stage and Deepstacked Final Table

With six of the final 15 contenders below or just above 20 big blinds, an action-packed early stage was not unexpected and it took a mere 25 minutes to form the final table. Juan "Malaka$tyle" Pardo busted in the very first hand with jack-ten suited against the ace-king suited of Niklas "Lena900" Astedt and it was a sign of things to come in the minutes after. Pauli "Fiilismies" Ayras and Chun Lei "SamRostan" Zhou missed out on the pay jump while Rui "RuiNF" Ferreira, "KissMyAcePlz" and Joni "bustoville" Jouhkimainen all came up short of the final nine.

Mathias "giftmyra" Joelsson lasted only a few minutes and bowed out while Christian "WATnlos" Rudolph recovered from just five big blinds and made several pay jumps. Instead, Francisco "Tomatee" Benitez bowed out next and the rise of Mulder began when he sent Michael "imluckbox" Addamo to the rail in 7th place. Mulder turned quads fours and Addamo eventually called it off on the river with two pair.

Sam "SamSquid" Grafton got it in good with ace-king against the ace-queen of Thomas "WushuTM" Muehloecker but a queen on the flop spelled the end for the jovial Brit. And once Rudolph was gone in fifth place, a lengthy affair could be expected with an average stack of more than 70 big blinds.

Back and forth ensued and Muehloecker correctly called a river jam by Andras "probirs" Nemeth to take over the lead. However, 15 minutes later the Austrian was gone in fourth place after he lost a chunk to Mulder and Nemeth then hit a runner-runner straight to reduce the field to the final trey.

Astedt doubled through Nemeth to get back into contention and the Hungarian then got a taste of his own medicine when Mulder rivered a straight to end his tournament in third place. It could have been all but over the very next hand when Astedt was dominated with sixes versus jacks but the Swede turned a set. Ultimately, it was just a small bump on the road to victory from there for Mulder, who closed it out with a bluff-catcher on a six-high board.

That wraps up a thrilling high stakes showdown and the PokerNews live reporting team will continue to provide updates throughout the remainder of the 2020 SCOOP.
