Koplimaa, Campana and Nolet Among Big Stacks After Day 1 of SCOOP #02-H: $2,100 NLHE
After eight hours and 50 minutes of fast-paced poker action, Day 1 of the 2020 PokerStars Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP) has wrapped up and among other events, Event #02-H: $2,100 NLHE has reached the halfway point on the way to determining a champion.
Some of the biggest names of the offline and online poker world gathered on the virtual felt in this special edition of the Thursday Thrill Progressive Knockout and many found themselves on the rail much sooner than they had hoped for. The first elimination took place in the very first level and Ole "wizowizo" Schemion wasn't far behind, one of many big names that failed to cash.
The guaranteed prize pool was surpassed thanks to 575 entries which created a total prize pool of $1,150,000, and the top 71 spots were to receive their share of the non-bounty prizes.
After the last virtual cards were wrapped up, it was Sweden's "Sasuke234" who topped the remaining 43 survivors with a stack of 3,196,370. He is no stranger to high-stakes tournaments on PokerStars and has regularly claimed five- and six-figure scores. Sasuke234 topped the Day 1 counts ahead of "kZhh" from Hungary, who ended up with a stack of 2,966,657.
The following three players on the are also known for their exploits on the live poker scene as Markku "markovitsus" Koplimaa (2,899,468), Eder "edercampana" Campana (2,784,780) and Guillaume "Nolet20" Nolet (2,676,745) round out the top five.
Koplimaa sits in first place of the Estonian online poker ranking and live all-time money list, and his biggest score came in 2019 when he took down the record-breaking EPT Barcelona €1,100 National.
Other notables still in contention are Pete “psxfrcndhe" Chen (2,051,850) Bertie "bigstealer" Bayley (1,647,000), Fabiano "Kovalski1" Kovalski (1,275,578), Jorryt "TheCleaner11" van Hoof (1,236,870), Jans "Graftekkel" Arends (1,166,809), Kenneth "kenny05" Smaron (877,911), Christopher "lissi stinkt" Frank (753,092), Ivan "Negriin" Luca (624,065), and Marton "noirduck" Czuczor (554,671).
Many others came up short including the current number one ranked online player Niklas Lena900" Astedt, Rens "Rens02" Feenstra, Ognyan "cocojamb0" Dimov, Pablo "pabritz" Brito and Johan "busto_soon" van Til, as each collected a min-cash of $2,257.39 on top of their accumulated bounty prizes.
Christian "WATnlos" Rudolph ended up as the bubble boy when his kings failed to hold up against ace-nine suited. Many other big names didn't also came up short on the first day of SCOOP action including former Main Event champions Talal “raidalot” Shakerchi, Charlie “Epiphany77” Carrel and Gianluca "Tankanza" Speranza.
The action will recommence on Friday May 1st, 2020, as of 1 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST) with blinds of 17,500/35,000 and a running ante of 4,500. Until the end of level 36, the levels remain 20 minutes long before the duration then increases to 30 minutes each.
Since all remaining contenders have accumulated eliminations thus far, the smallest bounty up for grabs has been bumped up to $1,500 while the largest currently stands at $10,031,25.
