Ivan "ILS007" Stokes Bags Unfathomable Chip Lead After Day 2 of the $10,300 WCOOP Main Event

Day 2 of the 2023 $10,300 World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) Main Event is in the books. At the start of the day, 176 people who had bagged on Day 1 were joined by 89 fresh faces. Across the two days, a total of 600 entries were made, matching the guaranteed prize pool of $6,000,000. Seventy-nine of the 265 who started would be paid out, and indeed many players have already had funds added to their PokerStars account, as only 38 hopefuls bagged and tagged for Day 3.

There was almost no question who would bag the most chips of all, as Ivan "ILS007" Stokes secured an enormous chip lead just before the bubble, and never looked back. He bagged a staggering 16,606,251 chips, good for more than 200 big blinds and almost double that of anyone else. Despite his big lead, he is not in the clear, as he is being chased by one of online poker’s greatest names, Niklas "Lena900" Astedt, who is taking 9,996,387 chips to Day 3. Jamil "Jamil11" Wakil rounds out the top three and is the only other player with more than nine million chips, with a stack of 9,799,062 heading into Day 3.

They are joined in the top ten by, among others, online legend "ShipitFTW911" (6,761,987) and super high roller regular Kayhan "KayhanMok" Mokri(6,431,244), who comes fresh off a victory in the €100,000 Super High Roller at EPT Barcelona.

Summary of Day 2

However, with a large supply of fresh starting stacks at the beginning of Day 2, there was a bust-out bonanza to be had before the players were even in reach of the money. Among the very early eliminations were the likes of Benny "RunGodlike” Glaser, Leon "RUMUKULUS" Sturm, Rui "RuiNF" Ferreira, Justin "ZeeJustin" Bonomo, and Martin “M.nosbocaJ” Jacobson. PokerStars Ambassadors Lex "L. Veldhuis" Veldhuis, Parker "tonkaaaa" Talbot, and Laurie "LaliTournier" Tournier all failed to make the top 100 as well.

Closer to the money, Fedor "CrownUpGuy" Holz, Georgi "milennial" Sandev, Linus "LLinusLLove" Loeliger, and Conor "1_conor_b_1" Beresford were felted, but it was Bulgaria’s "nikolai4o0o0" who was bestowed with the dubious honor of being the last player to leave without a cash.

Conor Beresford

Once in the money, Connor "blanconegro" Drinan, Sam "Str8$$$Homey" Greenwood, Simon "C. Darwin2" Mattsson, Felipe "ketzerfelipe" Ketzer, and Juan "Malaka$tyle" Pardo were among the ones that picked up the $21,342 mincash, while Pokerstars’ Rafael "GM_VALTER" Moraes, Yuri "theNERDguy" Dzivielevski, and Dominik "Bounatirou" Nitsche made the first payjump before the day ended with the two unplanned eliminations of Christoph "26071985" Vogelsang and "Renatbog97" to end the day with 38 players, who are now all secured at least $32,632.

They will return on Tuesday, October 3rd at 12:30 p.m. Eastern Time to decide who will sit down at the final table of nine. Blinds will resume in Level 27: 40,000/80,000 with an ante of 10,000 and all levels will continue to be 30 minutes in length.

PokerNews will once again be present from start to finish, so be sure to tune in to find out who will be among the nine players battling for the top prize of $1,047,257.

Nitsche Eliminated Just Shy of Day 3

Level 27 : Blinds 40,000/80,000, 10,000 ante
Dominik Nitsche
Dominik Nitsche

Jonathan "Proudflop" Proudfoot raised to 184,000 from middle position and Dominik "Bounatirou" Nitsche made the call from the big blind. Proudfoot then continued for 105,160 on the 454 flop after a check from Nitsche, and Nitsche once again called.

The third four appeared with the 4 on the turn, and Nitsche checked once more to his opponent. Proudfoot then put 149,600 more into the pot, after which Nitsche went all-in for 557,016 chips. Proudfoot quickly called and the cards were tabled.

Dominik "Bounatirou" Nitsche: A10
Jonathan "Proudflop" Proudfoot: 99

Nitsche would need to hit one of his hole cards to stay alive in the WCOOP Main Event, but the 8 on the river assured his exit instead. Only 43 players are now still in contention, with 40 making it through to Day 3.

Sam Grafton
Sam Grafton

The action folded to "Jepser8" on the button, and they raised to 140,000. Sam "SamSquid" Grafton then three-bet to 525,000 from the small blind and "Jepser8" made the call.

Grafton fired a bet of 389,813 on the 556 flop and "Jepser8" called before both players checked the 8 turn. Grafton then checked the 4 river as well, leading "Jepser8" to go all-in, barely covering Grafton's 1,325,320 stack.

Grafton made the call and "Jepser8" could only show KJ for king-high. Grafton's flopped pair of sixes with A6 was good enough to rake in the pot and he doubled up while leaving his opponents with just over two big blinds.

Moraes Falls to Astedt

Niklas "Lena900" Astedt raised to 140,000 from the cutoff and PokerStars' Rafael "GM_VALTER" Moraes three-bet all-in for 556,300 from the button. The action folded back to Astedt, who made the call.

Rafael "GM_VALTER" Moraes: KQ
Niklas "Lena900" Astedt: A5

Neither player paired their hole cards on the 9J7J3 board, and therefore Astedt's ace kicker won him the pot. Moraes bowed out of the Main Event, leaving Sam "SamSquid" Grafton as the last Red Spade still standing.

Felipe Ketzer

Felipe "ketzerfelipe" Ketzer opened to 120,000 from middle position before the action folded to Niklas "Lena900" Astedt in the small blind. He then three-bet all-in, covering both Thorsten "juicetus" Legit in the big blind and Ketzer. Legit folded but Ketzer quickly called to put his 1,369,023 chips at risk.

Felipe "ketzerfelipe" Ketzer: 99
Niklas "Lena900" Astedt: AK

Astedt paired his ace on AJ2, and Ketzer could not catch back up on the 8K runout. The big flip wnet Astedt's way, eliminating his Brazilian opponent in the process.

Padilha Unable to Work Miracles with the "Doyle"
Padilha Unable to Work Miracles with the "Doyle"

Pedro "PaDiLhA SP" Padilha had less than an ante left and thus was automatically all-in with the cards dealt to him on the button. Thorsten "juicetus" Legit then limped in from the cutoff, Pavel "silentm0de" Plesuv completed the small blind, and Mark "AceSpades11" Radoja checked from the big blind.

The trio then checked through the 579 flop, as well as the Q turn. On the 7 river, it was Radoja who bet out 75,000 chips and both of his opponents folded.

Radoja then tabled K10 for the king-high flush, and it was enough to beat the 102 of Padilha, who was eliminated with the lower flush.

"P0KERPR02.0" raised to 80,000 from the hijack and the absolute short-stack of the field "nikolai4o0o0" went all-in for 95,162 from the cutoff. PokerStars Ambassador Rafael "GM_VALTER" Moraes joined in from the small blind, and "P0KERPR02.0" put in the extra chips as well.

The two players who still had action then checked through the 105Q flop before Moraes bet 190,053 on the 6 turn, forcing "P0KERPR02.0" out of the pot.
