The penultimate day of the 2017 PokerStars Championship Barcelona €5,300 Main Event awaits and just 16 players out of a 1,682-entry strong field remain with nonother than PokerStars Team Pro Andre Akkari in the lead. All players on Day 5 already have €61,400 locked up, while all eyes are on the elusive golden trophy and €1,410,000 payday to the winner on Sunday August 27th 2017.

Second in chips is Brian Kaufman Esposito with 5,480,000 followed by UK's Usman Siddique with 4,650,000. In total, nine different nationalities are represented in the top 10 and 14 in total. Among those still in contention are [Removed:146] (4,065,000), Albert Daher (3,810,000), Tsugunari Toma (3,440,000), Alex Difelice (2,775,000), and Rens Feenstra (1,565,000). Day 2 chip leader Mauricio Salazar Sanchez (655,000) will return with 13 big blinds as the shortest stack among the hopefuls.

The PokerStars Championship's predecessor, the European Poker Tour only crowned one two-time champion in Victoria Coren Mitchell, but Italy's Raffaele Sorrentino might might do so in the very first season of the PokerStars Championship. After taking down the PokerStars Championship presented by Monte-Carlo Casino back in April for €466,714, he is also among the last 16 here at Casino Barcelona with a healthy stack of 3,000,000.
