Baumann Doubles Through Tarmakov

Level 17 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante
Gaelle Baumann
Gaelle Baumann

Kliment Tarmakov opened things up for 14,000 under the gun, and Gaelle Baumann jammed from two seats over for 112,000. When action got back to Tarmakov, he double-checked his hole cards and called.

Tarmakov: {k-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}
Baumann: {a-Clubs}{q-Clubs}

The flop came uneventful: {9-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}. Things changed in a big way with a {5-Clubs} turn, causing someone at the table to whistle at all of Baumann's newfound outs. The river was a {4-Clubs}, one of those outs, giving Baumann a flush.

Mercier is Gored by Gorey

Level 17 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante

If Jason Mercier was the matador in this hand, imagine Ronan Gorey as the bull, charging for the Team PokerStars Pro.

Mercier, bedecked in red today, has a mood to match his attire after a frustrating hand for the Floridian. He opened preflop to 13,00 and Gorey shoved over the top for 87,000. Mercier was the only one to call it off.

Jason Mercier: {Q-Hearts}{Q-Spades}
Ronan Gorey: {K-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds}

The flop of {J-Spades}{4-Clubs}{7-Hearts} kept Mercier ahead, but gave Gorey hope, which was duly delivered upon when the {J-Hearts} fell on the turn. Mercier had counted out Gorey's payment by the time the {3-Clubs} river hit the felt. Ouch.

Francisco Benitez Doubles Through John Dibella

Level 17 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante

John Dibella opened with a raise only to have Francisco Benitez three-bet to 46,000 from the button. Both blinds folded, Dibella moved all in, and Benitez called off for around 90,000.

Benitez: {q-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}
Dibella: {6-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}

Benitez was looking to dodge a six, and did so after the board ran out {k-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{8-Spades}{k-Hearts}.

Mercier Doubles Through Akhundov

Level 17 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante

Jason Mercier, in early position, raised to 13,000 followed by a three-bet to 30,000 by Ronan Gorey. Two positions over, Murad Akhundov shoved all in for 250,000 and action was back on Mercier. He too moved in, for 217,000. Gorey folded.

Murad Akhundov: {A-Hearts}{K-Diamonds}
Jason Mercier: {A-Clubs}{A-Diamonds}

The board ran out {8-Spades}{9-Clubs}{J-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}{6-Spades} and Mercier doubled, leaving Akhundov extremely short.

Damien Steel Eliminates Benjamin Zamani

Level 17 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante

Ben Zamani, who currently leads the World Poker Tour Player of the Year Race after amassing three final tables — including two second-place finishes — was just eliminated from the tournament.

He got his last 56,000 all in holding the {q-Hearts}{j-Hearts} and found himself flipping against Damien Steel's {10-Spades}{10-Diamonds}. The {9-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{8-Hearts} flop didn't do much, but the {J-Diamonds} turn gave Zamani the lead. Unfortunately for him, he made two pair on the {Q-Spades} river, which also gave Steel a winning straight.

Chance Kornuth Eliminated by Marcin Kapkowski

Level 17 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante
Chance Kornuth
Chance Kornuth

Chance Kornuth's hopes in the $5,300 Main Event at the Pokerstars Championship Bahamas are in tatters as he was shot down with pocket aces.

With 200,000 in the pot already, Kornuth (pictured) was committed for his last 120,000 chips and he was well behind, with Marcin Kapkowski holding {9-Hearts}{8-Hearts} on a board of {9-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{3-Hearts}. The river of {5-Diamonds} ended Kornuth's tournament.

Elsewhere, Dorian Rios Pavon was eliminated when he lost a race with pocket jacks against Mikko Turtiainen's {A-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds}.

Petrone Runs into the Nuts

Level 17 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante

Michael Gentili bet 37,000 on a flop of {a-Spades}{10-Spades}{8-Diamonds} from middle position, and Ramiro Petrone tanked awhile and shoved all in for what looked to be around 125,000 in the cutoff. Gentili snap-called, tabling {a-Hearts}{a-Diamonds} for top set. Petrone had quite a few outs, though, showing {q-Spades}{j-Spades} for a huge draw. The turn ended almost all of his hopes when it paired the board: {10-Hearts}. Only the royal flush would save Petrone, and a {5-Clubs} river didn't do it.

Tarmakov Doubles Through Cordoba

Level 17 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante

After an open to 15,000 in the hijack, Kliment Tarmakov made it 40,000 to go in the cutoff. Rodrigo Cordoba occupied the next seat and raised the price of poker further to 100,000. The opener followed the blinds into the muck, but Tarmakov shoved for 176,000 and got an immediate call.

Tarmakov: {a-Spades}{k-Diamonds}
Cordoba: {a-Hearts}{q-Hearts}

It was a great spot for Tarmakov, and the unexciting board of {5-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{8-Hearts} meant he doubled up.
