It Isn't Fair

Ryan Fair raised to 13,500 from the hijack only to have Adria Maria Balaguer shove all in from the big blind for 92,500. Fair called with {A-Clubs}{10-Clubs} and was a huge favorite against Balaguer’s {A-Spades}{7-Spades}. That all changed when the flop came down {6-Spades}{7-Hearts}{J-Hearts} to give Balaguer a pair of sevens and the lead.

“Ten of hearts on the river,” Fair said while getting a massage. “I can feel it.” He didn’t seem to care about the turn, which was the {5-Clubs}, and seemed excited to see if his prediction would come true. The dealer burned and the put out the {K-Diamonds}. Fair was wrong and had to send over a good portion of his chips to Balaguer.

Malm Doubles Twice

In a blind-for-blind battle, Michael Malm was all in and at risk with {q-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}. Patrick Kelly had him at risk with {a-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}, and when the production team was ready, the board ran out {q-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{j-Spades}{7-Hearts}{2-Spades}.

Malm doubled to over 115,000 chips while Kelly is still among the leaders with 1.2 million.

A few hands later, Malm was all in again with the worst of it. This time he had {a-Clubs}{q-Clubs} against the {k-Clubs}{k-Hearts} of Jonas Lauck. Malm hit an ace on the {a-Hearts}{q-Hearts}{5-Diamonds} flop, and held as the turn and river came {j-Spades}, {7-Diamonds} respectively.

He now has over 250,000 chips, while Lauck is left with around 90,000 or so.

Sargsyan Doubles

Jerry Wong opened to 10,000 from early position, and the action folded to Aram Sargsyan, who moved all in for 26,500 from the big blind. Wong instantly called.

Wong: {j-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}
Sargsyan: {8-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}

The eights held as the board came {k-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}, doubling Sargsyan to around 60,000 chips.

Wong slipped to 250,000.

The Day 1b Chip Leader Falls

Ashton Griffin
Ashton Griffin

The Day 1b chip leader, Ashton Griffin, was just eliminated at the outer table.

We caught the action on a {J-Hearts}{6-Spades}{9-Hearts} flop when Griffin check-raised Andrey Shatilov, who subsequently called. When the {Q-Diamonds} hit the turn, Griffin moved all in for right around 135,000 and Shatilov made a long call with {K-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}. Griffin tabled {Q-Hearts}{7-Hearts} for top pair and a flush draw, which meant he needed to improve on the river to stay alive.

The dealer burned one last time and put out the {4-Clubs}, the last card Griffin, who was recently featured in the PokerNews Podcast, would see in the 2013 PCA Main Event.
