Serkan Ersoy Claims Day 1a Chip Lead of the partypoker Main Event; Farrell, Newey, Higgins Also Through

Level 8 : 10,000/20,000, 20,000 ante
Serkan Ersoy
Serkan Ersoy

After a slight delay, Day 1a of the 2018 partypoker LIVE MILLIONS UK Main Event started and at the end of the day, 38 entries were collected. Those 38 entries included three reentries and of those 38, 18 players managed to find a bag at the end of the day to tag. Claiming the Day 1a chip lead is Turkey’s Serkan Ersoy with 4,830,000 in chips.

Ersoy was slowly collecting more and more chips but got most of them when he eliminated Erik Friberg with ace-queen against the pocket queens of Friberg. The ace fell on the flop to propel Ersoy into the chip lead, and that was a spot he didn’t want to give up during the later levels of the day.

Trailing Ersoy in the chip counts is Florin Sucala from Romania with 4,085,000. Is it going to be the year of Romania in Nottingham too? Sucala is definitely hoping so. Sucala took some of Rifat Palevic’s chips when he flopped top pair against him. Sucala also eliminated Javier Zarco and Kristoffer Rasmussen to take him to his current position.

Closing the podium in third place is UK’s own Simon Higgins who bagged 3,840,000. Other notable players who made it through to Day 2 include Guillermo Sanchez (3,150,000), Mark Gardner (2,100,000), David Lopez (1,850,000), Ben Dobson (1,780,000), Niall Farrell (1,550,000), Paul Newey (1,360,000), and Orpen Kisacikoglu (985,000).

Not everyone got lucky enough throughout the day though. partypoker pro Sam Trickett was eliminated when he shoved on the flop with a straight and flush draw but didn’t get there against the aces of Andrew Mapp. Palevic busted both of his bullet, as did Arran Fletcher. Other players failing to get to the end of the day include Paul Dando, Andy Black, Nabil Cardoso, and Yani Yanev.

Fletcher Can't Stay Alive

Level 8 : 10,000/20,000, 20,000 ante
Arran Fletcher
Arran Fletcher

David Lopez raised to 50,000 from mid-position and everyone folded to Arran Fletcher in the small blind who shoved for 361,000. Lopez looked at the amount and then called.

Arran Fletcher: {K-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}
David Lopez: {A-Spades}{Q-Spades}

The flop came {J-Diamonds}{K-Spades}{A-Clubs} to give them both a pair with Lopez ahead with the aces. They also both had a straight draw.

The {2-Hearts} on the turn didn't change the situation as Lopez was still ahead.

The river completed the board with the {10-Spades} which didn't change the outcome in the end as Lopez now improved to a straight to take Fletcher out on his second bullet.

Level 8 : 10,000/20,000, 20,000 ante
Yani Yanev
Yani Yanev

Yani Yanev shoved for 299,000 from mid-position and action folded to Gavin Chamberlain in the big blind. Chamberlain checked his hole cards and looked pained. He counted out his blue 100,000-value chips and considered what to do. After a few seconds, Chamberlain called.

Yani Yanev: {A-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}
Gavin Chamberlain: {4-Hearts}{4-Spades}

Yanev got up from his chair already when he saw Chamberlain's cards.

The board ran out {10-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{K-Spades}{6-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds} for Chamberlain's pocket fours to hold to eliminate Yanev from the tournament in the last level of the day.

Fletcher's Kicker No Good

Level 6 : 8,000/16,000, 16,000 ante
Arran Fletcher
Arran Fletcher

Arran Fletcher has just been eliminated by Orpen Kisacikoglu and Kisacikoglu was kind enough to relate to the PokerNews team what had happened:

"I raised to 35,000 from the cutoff and he called in the big blind.

The flop was {9-}{x-}{x-}, he checked, I c-bet, he called.

The turn was the {k-Spades}, we both checked.

The river was another {9-}. He checked, I made it 70,000, he raised to 210,000 and I put him all-in. He called. I showed {a-}{9-}, he only showed the {9-} and mucked the other card."Flecter

Trickett Out; Mapp On Top

Level 5 : 7,000/14,000, 14,000 ante
Sam Trickett
Sam Trickett

Sam Trickett has just been eliminated by Andrew Mapp. Trickett shoved on the {7-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{6-Diamonds} flop with {10-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} from the cutoff and was at risk as he was called by Mapp in the small blind with {A-Spades}{A-Diamonds}. The rest of the board was completed with the {k-Spades} on the turn and the {5-Spades} on the river to not help Trickett achieve his straight nor flush draw.

Trickett said he was going home as he wasn't feeling too well, it is expected he'll be back tomorrow for another shot at one of the many tournaments that are going on right now.

The hand after that, Mapp raised to 28,000 from the button and was called by Hao Ran Cai and Arran Fletcher in the blinds.

The flop came {9-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{2-Hearts} and both Cai and Fletcher checked. Mapp bet 35,000, Cai raised to 86,000 and only Mapp called.

The turn brought them the {q-Spades}, Cai barreled another 200,000 over the line and Mapp called.

The river completed the board. Cai now counted out his stack and decided to fire 425,000 into the pot. Mapp gave up on the pot.
