While Anatoly Filatov was the shortest stack when the deal was struck and Benjamin Benoit was guaranteed to take home the lion's share of the prize pool, it was the Frenchman who went out in third place. After losing yet another pot to Filatov, the Russian took over the lead and the next big clash followed soon after.

Filatov raised the button and Benoit defended the big blind, then called a bet of 150,000 on the {6-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{2-Diamonds} flop. After the {4-Clubs} turn, Benoit bet 220,000 and Filatov raised to 650,000, which Benoit called. The {8-Clubs} river completed the board and Benoit check-called the shove of Filatov for his last 1,300,000. Filatov had him covered by some 100,000 and showed {8-Spades}{7-Spades} for a straight, Benoit mucked and had to settle for 3rd place and €80,000 as per the deal.
