Lackey Cracks Aces, Dabbagh Continues Slide

Level 13 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

David Lackey just doubled through Habib Dabbagh.

Dabbagh and Lackey got all in on the turn with the board reading {k-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}.

The action started on the flop when Dabbagh opened for 8,000. Chris Chapman called and Lackey raised to 35,000. Dabbagh called and Chapman folded.

On the turn, Dabbagh checked to Lackey. Lackey shoved all in for his last 49,800 and Dabbagh called.

Dabbagh had aces against the {j-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} of Lackey and needed help.

The {5-Clubs} river completed the {k-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{5-Clubs} board, giving Lackey the double.

Don't Miss the HPO Championship June 23-26 at M Resort in Las Vegas

Level 13 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

The Hollywood Poker Open $2,500 Championship Event will take place June 23-26, 2016. That's right in the heat of summer out when the entire poker world takes to Sin City surrounding the World Series of Poker. But as we've come to know in the past few years, there are several premier non-WSOP events, and the HPO Championship Event is without a doubt one of them.

The event will feature two starting flights and a big field that has averaged nearly 700 players over the first three editions with an average first-place prize of $340,000. If that's not a juicy tournament to get excited about, then we're not sure what is. It comes with an affordable, yet prize-pool-juicing buy-in of $2,500 and takes place at the beautiful M Resort.

One thing that makes the HPO Championship Event so great is the large amount of satellite qualifiers and promotional winners coming from Hollywood Casino venues all over the US. Plus, there will be a handful of on-site satellite tournaments awarding more seats to the event should you be looking to get in for a fraction of the cost.

You can view those satellites, along with the entire HPO Championship Event schedule, by clicking here.

This will once again be a can't-miss tournament during the summer, and PokerNews will be there for all four days to provide coverage.

Two All Ins, Rudnick Eliminated

Level 13 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

Day 1b chipleader Andrew Rudnick has been eliminated by Chris Chapman after Rudnick went all in with the bottom end of a straight and Chapman called with the top end.

Anthony Vaughn has been having trouble against pocket tens all tournament and it looked like he might be over it.

Vaughn got all in preflop with Denny Grizzle. Vaughn held {a-}{a-} and Grizzle, {10-}{10-}. Vaughn flopped a set on the {a-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}{9-Diamonds} board and fist pumped.

As the turn came onto the board and the {q-Diamonds} gave Grizzle several straight outs, Chris Moneymaker told Vaughn he might want to wait to celebrate.

The {8-Clubs} on the river sealed Vaughn's fate and gave Grizzle the straight. Vaughn now has under 40,000.

Vaughn Doubles Through Dabbagh

Level 13 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

Anthony Vaughn changed tables for a couple hands before moving back to take Mike Truman's vacated seat. While he was away, he doubled up through Habib Dabbagh.

Vaughn flopped two pair with {a-}{10-} on the {a-Spades}{10-Hearts}{3-Clubs} flop. Dabbagh had {j-}{j-} and turned a set when the {j-Hearts} hit the turn.

The river would send Dabbagh away from the table to let off some steam, as it came the {a-Hearts} and earned Vaughn the double up. Vaughn cheered for himself a little, meanwhile Dabbagh took a moment before composing himself and returning to the table.

Redraw Time, Grizzle Busts Smith

Level 13 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

Play started today with 19 players remaining. On one of the first hands of the day, Denny Grizzle shoved all in for 54,000 and Josh Smith called for less.

Grizzle had {a-}{2-} and flopped a straight on the {4-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{5-Hearts} board. Smith had some hope with a flush draw, holding {q-Hearts}{10-Hearts}. However, the flush didn't come when the board finished {j-Clubs}{2-Spades} and sent Smith home.

The players are now redrawing down to two tables.

HPO Charles Town Main Event Day 2, Two November Niners on Opposite Ends of Leaderboard

Chris Moneymaker
Chris Moneymaker

It’s too bad there’s not a go-to theme song for the start of a poker tournament, because today is an exciting day. For now, imagine something similar to the first time you heard the Monday Night Football theme.

It’s Day 2 of the Hollywood Poker Open Charles Town $1,115 Regional Main Event and 2003 World Series of Poker Main Event champion Chris Moneymaker is the massive the chip leader by almost 200,000. In the past two HPO regional main events, Moneymaker hit a few bumps at the end of Day 1 and was unable to cash, but this time he looks as sure as ever that he's not only going to cash, but make a run at his second HPO title.

In St. Louis, he would have finished Day 1 over 300,000 if it wasn’t for Peter Brooks. Brooks cracked Moneymaker's pocket aces and he finished just outside the money.

In Columbus, just two weeks ago, he doubled up Josh Lowing on the very last hand of the night. Moneymaker had {a-}{q-} against the pocket tens of Lowing and couldn’t catch up. That left him with just about 50,000 and he couldn’t make much happen on Day 2, finishing outside of the money again.

The table is set for Moneymaker to make a deep run, and with a 200,000-chip lead he might have the chance for a Joe Ebanks-type run here in Charles Town. Ebanks won the HPO Columbus Regional Main Event at the last stop, eliminating the final five players before finally making a deal with Jeremy Detamore to seal it off.

Moneymaker will start the day with 371,800. On the opposite end of the spectrum, another player with WSOP Main Event final table experience is the shortest stack. That's Lee Childs. Childs will enter the day with 14,600. He has been truly grinding his way through this tournament and managed to get into Day 2, albeit with only seven big blinds, so his work will be cut out for him.

Dennis Summers (199,700), Day 1b chip leader Andrew Rudnick (188,700), Mike Sites (184,600), and Habib Dabbagh (167,000) round out the top five chip stacks behind Moneymaker. Dabbagh is a Lebanese player with only four cashes in the US. He has $86,000 in earnings and a deep run here could put him over the $100,000 mark.

Stay tuned throughout the day for all the updates and photos from the field as the HPO crowns its newest champion, the last of Season 4 regional main events.
