Kurganov Binks One

Level 11 : 600/1,200, 200 ante
Igor Kurganov
Igor Kurganov

Igor Kurganov just took a big pot off Annette Obrestad and the German pro was kind enough to explain to us what happened after he was stacking his chips.

Kurganov raised to 2,500 from early position with {4-Clubs}{5-Clubs} after which Obrestad three-bet to 8,800 from the big blind with {A-Spades}{A-Clubs}. Kurganov made the call and with 20,000 chips in the pot the flop showed {6-Clubs}{2-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}.

Obrestad continued by betting 10,500 and Kurganov made the call.

"And then BINK!" Kurganov smiled as he explained that the {3-Spades} popped up on the turn.

The Norwegian WSOPE Main Event winner bet 22,000 on the turn and Kurganov called once more. The river brought out the {2-Clubs} and Obrestad bet 53,000 into 85,000 while Kurganov had 78,000 chips left.

"And then I slow rolled," Kurganov laughed as he explained how he tanked for quite some time before just making the call with his turned straight.

"I'm not still sure about that," the German pro added. Kurganov raked in a huge pot and is now among the bigger stacks in the room.

Boukhris Doubles Through Fox

Level 11 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

Shortly after his big double up through Hendrik Latz, Elio Fox was involved in a other all-in pot, but this time it was Yacoub Boukhris who was at risk.

Fox held the {10-Spades}{10-Clubs} and was in front of Boukhris' {8-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}. Boukhris was all in for 35,100 and flopped a set on the {K-Hearts}{8-Spades}{2-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds} board to win the pot and double up.

The Candio Man Can

Level 11 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

Board: {3-Spades}{j-Spades}{3-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{2-Hearts}

Patrick Naxache checked, Benny Spindler tossed out 16,600, and Filippo Candio called. Naxache agonized over his decision for well over two minutes, then finally folded.

Spindler showed {a-Spades}{8-Spades} for a missed flush draw, which Candio had beat with {7-Hearts}{4-Hearts} for trip fours.

Big Double for Fox

Level 11 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

On the {8-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{4-Clubs} flop, former World Series of Poker Europe Main Event winner Elio Fox bet 16,000. Hendrik Latz made the call, then the dealer dealt the {K-Diamonds} on the turn. Fox bet 26,000, and Latz raised all in. Fox called off for 80,100 total, and Latz saw the bad news.

Latz showed the {A-Clubs}{K-Spades} was behind the {A-Diamonds}{A-Hearts} for Fox. Following the {2-Hearts} river card, Latz sent the chips over to Fox, who moved to 240,000.

Sanioglu Has His Pants Pulled Down

Level 11 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

Ekrem Sanioglu's great progress today has been halted somewhat by Andrew Pantling.

The latter opened to 2,500 from under the gun and was only called by Sanioglu in the cut-off en route to a {k-Spades}{7-Hearts}{9-Clubs} flop. Pantling bet 3,100 there and 8,300 on the {4-Diamonds} turn before he checked the {9-Spades} river. Sanioglu called all the way and then bet 21,200 on the river when faced with the check.

Pantling took a minute and made a great call with {a-Hearts}{q-Clubs} as Sanioglu opened {j-Spades}{10-Clubs}.

Newey Joins Others on the Rail

Level 11 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

Paul Newey was seen heading out of the tournament room explaining to his friend how he busted. He then told PokerNews that he was short when he flopped top pair with king-jack only for his opponent in the hand to have aces.

Kim Eliminated

Level 11 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

Brian Kim has just been eliminated, and it was two hands that did him in.

The first of the two was the big one and knocked Kim to under 10 big blinds. After seeing a flop with Clyde Tjauw Foe and one other player, Kim check-raised Tjauw Foe's bet of 4,100 to 8,300 on a flop of {8-}{5-}{3-} with two diamonds. The third player had folded before Tjauw Foe reraised to 18,000. Kim jammed, and Tjauw Foe called off with the {A-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds} for two overcards and a flush draw. Kim held {8-}{8-} for top set.

The {10-Diamonds} hit the turn, completing Tjauw Foe's flush, and a black on the river failed to give Kim the full house he needed. Tjauw Foe won the pot and doubled to about 120,000.

A couple hands later, Vasili Firsau opened with a raise to 2,500, and Kim jammed in the cutoff seat for 9,200. Action folded back to Firsau, and he called.

Firsau's {10-Hearts}{10-Spades} dominated Kim's {A-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}, and the flop of {K-Hearts}{Q-Spades}{3-Hearts} kept the tens in front. The {7-Hearts} on the turn added a flush draw to the straigt draw Kim had flopped, but the {K-Spades} was of no consequence to Firsau's hand and he won the pot.

Boeken Chips Up

Level 11 : 600/1,200, 200 ante
Noah Boeken
Noah Boeken

Ronny Voth raised to 2,500 and Yuryy Gulyy called in position after which Noah Boeken called from the big blind. The flop brought out {A-Diamonds}{A-Hearts}{Q-Spades} and all three players checked.

On the turn the {J-Diamonds} hit and Boeken was the only player to call Voth's 6,200-chip bet. The river brought the {J-Spades} and Boeken checked again. Voth tanked for a bit and checked as well after which he mucked when Boeken showed {J-Clubs}{5-Clubs}. Boeken chipped up a bit as he's looking for back-to-back EPT Grand Final Main Event cashes after finishing 92nd last year.

Two Hands from Table 2

Level 11 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

[Removed:17] opened to 2,500 from early position, Flavien Guenan called on his left, and John Juanda three-bet to 8,200 near the button. Both Yan and Guenan called.

The dealer fanned {7-Hearts}{8-Spades}{2-Hearts}, and Yan opted to lead out, splashing forward 14,100. Guenan quickly folded, and after some thought, Juanda mucked as well.

The very next hand, Ognjen Sekularac opened to 2,600 from early position, Mohsin Charania called on his direct left, and Christophe De Meulder called on the button. The flop was {5-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{5-Clubs}, Sekularac checked, and Charania tossed out 4,200. Only De Meulder called.

The turn was the {8-Clubs}, Charania fired 7,500, and De Meulder mucked.

"Smashed that one," Charania said, referring to the turn card.

He and De Meulder shared a laugh as the Season 8 PokerStars and Monte-Carlo® Casino EPT Grand Final Main Event champion stacked the Belgian's chips.
