Day 4 Completed

Sebastian Pauli Leads The Final 16 as Cody, Spindler and MacPhee Advance

Level 22 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante
Sebastian Pauli
Sebastian Pauli

After a short action-packed day, during which we went from 36 players down to just 16, it was German pro Sebastian Pauli who grabbed the lead with 2,674,000 chips, slightly more than former EPT Deauville champion and Team PokerStars Pro Jake Cody who bagged up 2,291,000.

Right at the start of the day it was Francis Foord-Brown who busted out holding a pair of eights versus Jonas Lauck's ace-ten. He was followed out the door by Team PokerStars Pro Online Mickey Petersen who exited when his ace-jack did not hit against the sixes of Artur Koren.

Another Team PokerStars Pro Online fell in 34th place as Italian Christian Favale could not beat Marko Neumann's flopped straight. Favale got his money in with an open-ended straight flush draw but the turn and river were mere blanks. Kai Herold, Sergio Aido, Leo Nordin and Fadhil Farag all busted out in quick succession followed by one of the most interesting hands of the day.

Team PokerStars Pro Online Marc-Andre Ladouceur had doubled up right at the start of the day but it did not turn out to be the start of something great for the French Canadian. After raising to 23,000 before the flop it was Cody who three-bet from his left to 58,000 and Ladouceur called. The flop brought out deuce-four-five rainbow and Ladouceur check-raised Cody's bet from 56,000 to 130,000. The turn brought the eight of diamonds after Cody had called and Ladouceur bet 90,000. Cody called and moved all in on the river when the jack of clubs popped up after Ladouceur had checked and after two minutes he made the call. Cody had hit two pair with four-eight of hearts and that knocked Ladouceur out in 29th place for £13,000 as he had queen-jack of spades.

Cody was in full control after this huge hand that put him on 1.2 million chips, but that could not be said for Team PokerStars SportStar Fatima Moreira de Melo. The former Olympic hockey champion lost a coin flip for her tournament life with nines against Koren's ace-queen as she fell in 28th place. Another Team PokerStars Pro player left the tournament area in 27th place when Liv Boeree couldn't mount a comeback after doubling up Alexander Trevallion. Boeree took home £14,800 for her efforts and also became the last women standing in this EPT.

After the eliminations of Marco Caza, Sven Wendt, Simon Taberha and Mark Neumann we were down to 22 players. After a redraw Cody and Pauli were moved to the featured table and they both put on quite a show while Trevallion was knocked out in 22nd followed by the EPT Barcelona 9th place finisher Bram Haenraets in 21st place.

EPT champion Kevin MacPhee doubled up with 20 players remaining and he will return tomorrow with a chance to keep his double-EPT title hopes alive. Jareth East won't be returning tomorrow and neither will Zahi Harel as they left the tournament in 20th and 19th place.

With 18 players remaining Lauck hit a miracle runner-runner flush to keep his dreams alive followed by doubling his opponent, [Removed:119], back up when his set held up. William Chattaway ran his deuces into Joao Vieira's tens to finish in 18th place and minutes later it was Daniel Erlandsson who busted in 17th place to end play for the night.

Daniel Erlandsson Eliminated in 17th Place (£22,500)

Level 22 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante
Daniel Erlandsson
Daniel Erlandsson

The action started with a raise from Daniel Erlandsson under the gun and Simon Deadman called from the hijack. Sebastian Pauli called from the button and Team PokerStars Pro Jake Cody put in the extra chips from the big blind.

The flop brought out {A-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} and the action was checked to Pauli on the button who bet 80,000. Cody folded right away and Erlandsson made the call after which Deadman folded as well.

The turn brought the {K-Clubs} and Pauli bet 135,000 after Erlandsson had checked. The Swede tanked for quite a long time before eventually moving all in for 361,000 chips. Pauli snap-called and the showdown went as following.

Pauli had turned a straight on top of having an open ended straight flush draw with {J-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}, and Erlandsson was in a world of hurt with {A-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}.

The river brought the {3-Hearts} and Erlandsson was knocked out in 17th place bringing us down to the Final 16.

William Chattaway

Joao Vieira opened to 32,000 from early position and it folded around to William Chattaway in the small blind. Chattaway three-bet all in for 280,000 and the big blind folded his hand. Vieira called and the hands were turned on their backs.

Vieira: {10-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}
Chattaway: {2-Hearts}{2-Clubs}

Vieira was in a commanding position with his two tens and it stayed that way through a {A-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{7-Spades}{9-Clubs}{6-Spades} run out. Chattaway hit the rail in 18th place and Vieira boosted his stack up to 1.26 million.

Bensadoun: {3-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}
Lauck: {A-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds}

Lauck Hits Running Cards To Stay Alive in 1.5MM Pot

Level 22 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante
Jonas Lauck
Jonas Lauck

We just witnessed one of the biggest and craziest hands of the tournament as Jonas Lauck and [Removed:119] clashed in an enormous pot.

The action started with Lauck who raised under the gun to 35,000 and from the button it was Kevin Killeen who three-bet to 85,000. [Removed:119] called from the big blind and Lauck called as well.

The flop brought {J-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{8-Spades} and almost immediately Bensadoun moved all in for around 1.3 million chips. This huge shove was called by Lauck after about two minutes while he had 633,000 chips in front of him. Killeen quickly folded and one of the biggest all-ins was upon us.

Bensadoun had flopped a set holding {J-Hearts}{J-Clubs} and he was up against Lauck's {9-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} for two pair and a backdoor flush draw.

Lauck looked devastated when he looked at Bensadoun's set, but the turn gave him some hope when the {Q-Diamonds} popped up. On the river the {K-Diamonds} hit and Lauck hit a flush that silenced the crowd and left Bensadoun in frustration.

Gabriel Shoves into Lauck

Level 22 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante

Jonas Lauck opened with a raise to 35,000 only to have Gino Gabriel three-bet to 85,000 from the cutoff. Action came back around to Lauck and he announced a four-bet to 185,000. Gabriel called and the two were off to the top.

The dealer fanned a flop of {A-Hearts}{K-Hearts}{7-Clubs} and Lauck checked. Gabriel took this opportunity to fire 220,000 into the middle. Lauck thought for a moment before cutting out calling chips. This allowed the {5-Hearts} to fall on the turn, prompting yet another check from Lauck. Gabriel instantly moved all in for what looked to be 340,000. Lauck let his hand go and Gabriel pulled in the pot.
