Day 2 Completed

Boeree in Strong Contention as Sorrentino Leads The Way

Level 14 : 1,200/2,400, 300 ante
Liv Boeree

After an intense day of poker it's Raffaele Sorrentino who leads the way with 491,400 in chips. Just 135 players remain heading into the third day of play. Out of the 675 players that entered this season's EPT London stop 370 started and right of the bat they started dropping like flies.

Full Tilt Poker Ambassador Dermot Blain, Ole Schemion, Viktor Blom and Andrew Chen were among the first players to hit the rail, and many would follow. Pratyush Buddiga was eliminated by Robbie Schiffbauer who held queens on a jack-high board versus Buddiga's middle pair. Unfortunately for Schiffbauer, he was later knocked out himself as well. World Series of Poker bracelet winner and this year's 13th-place finisher in the Main Event, Craig McCorkell was also among those unlucky in the first level.

All Team PokerStars Pros survived Day 1a but how different did things look on Day 2. Luca Pagano, Joao Nunes, Victoria Coren Mitchell and Leo Margets all hit the rail, and so did PokerStars Mind Sports Ambassador Jennifer Shahade and Team Online members Ike Haxton and Mikhail Shalamov.

Going into Day 3 PokerStars will be represented by SportStar Fatima Moreira de Melo (56,400), Team Online Mickey Petersen (141,900) and Marc-Andre Ladouceur (201,400) and Team Pros Bertrand Grospellier (71,900), Eugene Katchalov (86,100), Johnny Lodden (285,400), Jake Cody (269,400) and Liv Boeree. The former is in great shape with a stack worth 230,300 as she looks to add a second EPT title to her resume in the coming days.

Jason Mercier started the day with very little chips but managed to build up an impressive stack towards the end of the day. Just before the day concluded, however, he was knocked out by David Cabrera who made a full house against Mercier's flush. Cabrera's one of the chip leaders heading into Day 3 with 418,500.

Other notables we lost on Day 2 included the first ever EPT Grand Final winner and the Netherlands' first WSOP bracelet winner, Rob Hollink and other former champs Michael Tureniec, Frederik Jensen, Davidi Kitai, Rupert Elder and Dominik Panka. Recent WCOOP Main Event winner Fedor 'CrownUpGuy' Holz also hit the rail.

The man who hasn't busted out of many tournaments this year, Daniel Colman, won't add to his staggering $22 million live winnings in the Main Event here, as he was knocked out on Day 2 as well, as was fellow One Drop finalist Christoph Vogelsang.

Plenty of superstar players are still in contention on Day 3 including Sam Trickett who managed to double up towards the end of the night. Former EPT winners Kevin MacPhee (277,700), Benny Spindler (162,900), Nicolas Chouity are still in contention for a second title while Day 1a chip leader Anatoly Filatov also bagged up a very nice stack with 318,400.

Day 3 coverage continues at 12:00 p.m. local London time as we'll play six 90-minute levels. The £10,000 High Roller starts on Thursday and will be covered on PokerNews.com as well.

Trickett Doubles Up

Level 14 : 1,200/2,400, 300 ante
Sam Trickett
Sam Trickett

Kamal Choraria opened the action for 6,500 from the cut-off and Sam Trickett moved all in over the top for 80,000. It seemed Dori Yacoub in the big blind had a tough decision to make as he took a few minutes to make up his mind, particularly as they all had similar stack sizes. Yacoub did fold though and when it got back to Choraria he made a quick call.

Trickett felt he must be in big trouble as he slightly sheepishly turned over his {4-Spades}{4-Hearts}. He would utter, “Oh wow.” on seeing Choraria’s {q-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}. A flop of {8-Hearts}{q-Hearts}{3-Diamonds} saw Trickett out of his seat. All eyes were glued to the felt as the dealer burned and turned the {7-Spades}. A collective gasp rang out when Trickett spiked his {4-Diamonds} river card to double up and put the hurt on Choraria.

Mercier Busts, Cabrera Hits 400,000

Level 14 : 1,200/2,400, 300 ante
Jason Mercier
Jason Mercier

It's game over for Team PokerStars Pro Jason Mercier, he had {J-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} on a {10-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{6-Diamonds} board but ran into David Cabrera who flopped a set and turned a full house with {3-Hearts}{3-Clubs}. Mercier was all in by the river with the Spaniard having him covered.

"Did you bluff me earlier?" asked Mercier, referring to a previous hand as he began to pack his things.

"No, I had it," replied Cabrera.

Revealing Table

Level 14 : 1,200/2,400, 300 ante

On a flop of {4-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{6-Hearts} Team PokerStars SportStar Fatima Moreira de Melo led out for 7,800. Sat to her immediate left was her opponent Sofia Lovgren who raised her to 16,000.

De Melo thought it over for a while before pushing her cards forward. Lovgren showed her the {10-Clubs}{10-Hearts}.

“That was nice of you to show her.” Marc-Andre Ladouceur called over and then gestured to his neighbour and continued, “I’ve been showing him mine all day.”

De Melo thanked Lovgren for showing her what she had.

Katchalov Over Mercier

Level 14 : 1,200/2,400, 300 ante

Jason Mercier raised to 4,800 from early position and action trickled around to fellow Team PokerStars Pro Eugene Katchalov in the small blind. Katchalov called, the big blind got out of the way, and the two took a flop of {3-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{k-Hearts}.

Katchalov checked to the raiser and Mercier continued out for 4,200. Katchalov stuck around, allowing the {Q-Spades} to fall on fourth street. Both players checked fourth street, prompting the dealer to put out the {6-Hearts} on the river. Two more checks occurred and Katchalov rolled over {J-Spades}{J-Hearts}. Mercier smiled, threw his hand into the muck, and Katchalov was awarded the pot.
