The 2024 PokerStars European Poker Tour (EPT) Paris €50,000 Super High Roller  was won by Frenchman Thomas Santerne. The largest buy-in event of the EPT Paris schedule attracted 51 entries of the world’s poker elite to Le Palais des Congrès in Paris. Of those, 13 reentered into this crème de la crème lineup.

Santerne, who defeated runner-up Chris Brewer in a heads up duel that took 3 hours, scooped €889,000 of the €2,916,480 prize pool. Santerne's victory is his first live Super High Roller tournament win. Brewer was looking to go for back-to-back wins in this event, having claimed the title in this event last year.

Santerne said after winning: "It's incredible, I feel a lot of emotion, it's an insane title to win. All the players play well so it feels really great." He isn't going to be resting after this win; he said, "I'll be playing the Main Event, the €10k and maybe the €25k," before heading off to the next Triton stop. He credited Brewer, saying, "he's a great opponent, and it was crazy to win against him."

Day 3 Play

Sirzat Hissou was the first to bust at today's final table. The German decided to use some of his winnings to buy into the €25,000 NL Hold'em that is in play today. Next to leave the field was Markkos Ladev, who secured his largest-ever live cash in this event. He had an up and down day, and at one point was down to 35,000. He eventually grew his stack to more than 1,000,000 but was busted by Brewer.

Then it was €10,200 Mystery Bounty winner Duco ten Haven who added another impressive cash to his haul in Paris. Pieter Aerts was next to go in third place. The Belgian had previously cashed in the 2023 €10,300 EPT Paris High Roller and the 2023 EPT Paris €3,000 Mystery Bounty.

Heads-Up Play

Santerne and Brewer traded the chip lead back and forth numerous times throughout the three-hour battle. The two switched places within ten minutes of each other in what proved to be a tense and hard-fought affair.

However, it proved to be Santerne's day as he hit quads on the way to taking down the title. Brewer had won five preflop all-ins to double his short stack in numerous spots, but Santerne finally managed to win an all-in against the American before lifting the prestigious trophy.

Even though this tournament has ended, there are still many more events to come from here in Paris. Stay tuned to PokerNews for continued coverage from 2024 PokerStars European Poker Tour (EPT) Paris.

Chris Brewer Eliminated in 2nd Place (€583,300)

Level 24 : Blinds 100,000/200,000, 200,000 ante
Chris Brewer
Chris Brewer

Chris Brewer jammed his final 1,700,000 chips from the button and a quick call followed from Thomas Santerne in the big blind.

Chris Brewer: K6
Thomas Santerne: 98

The 3310 flop remained clean for Brewer, but the 9 river saw Santerne pair up to take the lead. The 5 river did not change anything for either player, which meant that Brewer was left without any chips.

He fell one place short of defending his title but will take home €583,300 as a consolation prize.

Santerne Puts Brewer All-In

Level 24 : Blinds 100,000/200,000, 200,000 ante

Thomas Santerne limped his button and Chris Brewer checked his option in the big blind. The Q55 was fanned out and Brewer checked to Santerne, who made a bet of 200,000.

Brewer then raised to 800,000 and Santerne obliged with a call. Another 550,000 chips were bet by Brewer on the Q turn and Santerne stuck around once more with a call.

On the K river, Brewer went back to his sizing of 800,000, after which Santerne announced his all-in to put Brewer at risk.

Brewer could only shake his head and roll his eyes as he dramatically folded his hand and dove back to 20 big blinds.

Chris Brewer jammed for 3,485,000 from the button and Santerne snap-called.

Chris Brewer: K2
Thomas Santerne: 88

Brewer spiked a king on the 4K5 flop to leave Santerne drawing slim. Santerne couldn't find an eight on the 4 turn and the 5 river and Brewer made a better two pair hand to take the pot.

Chris Brewer limped in from the button before Thomas Santerne made it 650,000 to go from the big blind. Brewer made the call and the two went off to a flop of QQ5.

Santerne made a continuation-bet of 350,000, which Brewer called. Santerne fired another 825,000 on the 3 turn and another call followed from Brewer.

The Q river then completed the board and Santerne moved 3,495,000 chips in the middle, the majority of his stack.

Brewer quickly called, but could only compliment Santerne's hand when the latter turned over Q10 for quad queens.

Santerne doubled up to take back the chip lead as the heads up battle continued to go back and forth.

Santerne Calls Over-Bet

Level 23 : Blinds 80,000/160,000, 160,000 ante

Thomas Santerne limped in from the button and Chris Brewer checked the big blind.

The pair then checked through the 710K4 flop and turn before Brewer made a slight over-bet of 500,000 on the 3 river.

Santerne let out a sigh but tossed in a calling chip fairly quickly. Brewer showed 52 for the lowest possible combination of cards, while Santerne turned over the winning hand with A7 for a flopped pair.
