Azizjon Rakhimov Earns the Top Spot in Day 1e of Eureka Main Event

Level 18 : Blinds 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante

Another action-packed day the PokerStars European Poker Tour Cyprus saw an additional 772 entrants make their way to the Merit Royal Diamond Hotel Casino & Spa for the penultimate flight of the Eureka Main Event. When combined with the previous four starting flights, the event has drawn total of 2,216 entrants with the final flight due to wrap up later tonight.

Azizjon Rakhimov emerged as the Day 1e chip leader after bagging up a stack worth 589,000. Hot on his heels, however, is Murat Taysi with 583,000 and Viet Van Vo, who ended with 574,000 for the third spot overall.

Team PokerStars ambassadors were in full force today, with Fintan Hand, Barny Boatman, Benjamin Bruneteaux, Parker Talbot, Simon Wiciak, Julien Brecard, Kenny Hallaert, and Lasse Jagd Lauritsen all joining the field in hopes of making a deep run.

Of those, Brecard had the best showing after ending with 149,000, while Hand bagged up 142,000 and Bruneteaux, 109,000. Boatman came in "last place" of the four PokerStars pros who made it through after ending with a below-average stack of 100,000. However, the grizzled veteran will still have plenty of room to maneuver during Day 2 in his hunt to add a second EPT Main Event title to his poker resume.

Other notables who earned a Day 2 berth include Aliaksei Boika (61,000), Andrey Pateychuk (95,000), Alexandre Reard (162,000), Marle Spragg (217,000), and Nick Palma (284,000) — who won a flip late in the day en route to securing his healthy bag.

Less fortunate were Felix Schneiders, Jorge Ufano, Jason Wheeler and Lily Kiletto, all of whom were eliminated. Kiletto actually held the chip lead at one point about halfway through the day, but her early fortunes ended in frustration after both Parahat Nurmuhammedov and Jedrzej Aleksander Smaruj doubled through her during Level 17. Kiletto was left with a short stack and ended up shoving into Mathias Moutaoukil's pocket tens with king-eight suited to be eliminated.

Not long after, the Day 2 bubble arrived and ended almost as soon as it began. On the very first round of hand-for-hand play, Boris Angelov ran pocket tens into Riccardo Trevisani's pocket kings to end play for the day and guarantee everyone remaining a spot in the money.

The players who bagged across all starting flights will reconvene on Saturday, October 12 at 12 p.m. local time for Day 2. Prize pool details will be released shortly after play gets underway.

There is still plenty of action yet to come as players set their sights on making a deep run into Day 2 and beyond. Be sure to stick with PokerNews as we continue providing coverage leading to final table and eventual next EPT Main Event champion!

Angelov Runs Into Kings on the Bubble

Level 18 : Blinds 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Boris Angelov
Boris Angelov

Boris Angelov raised to 16,000 from early position and Riccardo Trevisani three-bet to 60,000 from the big blind. Angelov moved all in for around 160,000 and Trevisani, who had eliminated Lorenzo Arduini just moments before, made the call. Players turned their cards, with Angelov at risk.

Boris Angelov: 1010 All in
Riccardo Trevisani: KK

"No 'Congratulations players, you are in the money'," pleaded Angelov.

The board ran out 836JJ and Angelov found no help. Trevisani held with his pocket kings, making two pair with the jacks on board.

Cheers and claps rang out across the room and the TD made the announcement that Angelov didn't want to hear. The bubble had burst and the rest of the 116 players made it through to Day 2 and into the money.

Aleksandr Kirichenko open-raised to 10,000 from late position, and Nick Palma moved all in from the small blind for 116,000. Kirichenko quickly made the call, and players turned their cards.

Nick Palma: 1010 All in
Aleksandr Kirichenko: AK

The board ran out 4JJ107 and Palma sealed the deal when he made a full house on the turn, tens full of jacks. He won the pot and doubled his stack, much to the disappointment of Kirichenko, who handed over the chips with a dismayed look on his face.

Alexane Najchaus
Alexane Najchaus

Batumhan Ozturk opened to 8,000 under the gun, and was faced with a three-bet jam to 49,000 from Alexane Najchaus from the next seat.

Action folded to Samy Barka in the small blind, who cold four-bet jammed for 91,000, forcing Ozturk to get out of the way.

Alexane Najchaus: JJ All in
Samy Barka: AK

Najchaus was ahead in a race, but that didn't last long after the flop came K83. Najchaus was down to two outs and neither arrived on the 58 turn and river.

Toujani Binks the River to Double

Level 14 : Blinds 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante
Fouad Toujani
Fouad Toujani

Kostadin Kostadinov opened the hijack to 6,000 and Fouad Toujani shoved from the big blind for around 50,000. Kostadinov was indecisive about his action but eventually settled on a call, which left Toujani at risk.

Fouad Toujani: KJ All in
Kostadin Kostadinov: 88

Toujani stood up, willing his hand to win the race, but didn't get any help on the 10310 flop. The Q did give Toujani a lot more outs as he improved to an open-ended straight draw, and he completed that draw with the A on the river, which earned him a double-up.

Angelov On Right Side of Brutal Cooler

Level 14 : Blinds 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante
Boris Angelov
Boris Angelov

A pot of 30,000 had developed already in a hand between Boris Angelov in the cutoff and Daniyar Aubakirov in the small blind.

The flop read 10103, and Aubarikov check-raised to 23,000 versus a 7,000 bet from Angelov. After some thought, Angelov called.

The 8 hit on the turn, and Aubakirov led out for 20,000. Angelov made the call after some deliberation.

The 5 river completed the board, and Aubakirov moved all in with the covering stack. Angelov quickly got his remaining 53,000 into the middle.

Aubarikov confidently tabled 33 for the flopped full house, but it was no good versus Angelov's 108, who had turned the higher boat.

Lauritsen Doubles Up With Tens

Level 14 : Blinds 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante
Lasse Jagd Lauritsen
Lasse Jagd Lauritsen

Following an open-raise, Yunkyu Song three-bet to 15,000 from middle position and then Lasse Jagd Lauritsen moved all in from the small blind for 82,500. The original raiser folded and Song stood up and put his jacket on to gain more equity before making the call.

Lasse Jagd Lauritsen: 1010 All in
Yunkyu Song: AK

The board ran out 42579 and Lauritsen held with his pocket tens to double up his stack.

A neutral player commented that this was the second time Lauritsen had doubled up in recent hands, to which Lauritsen replied, "second time with tens versus ace-king."

Barny Boatman was all in for his stack of 26,500 and Aleksandr Kirichenko made the call to put him at risk.

Boatman was far out in the lead with his Big Slick and maintained his dominance on the 298 flop. The runout of 42 brought no help to Kirichenko, which meant Boatman doubled up.

Bruneteaux Climbs Over 100,000, Nica Loses a Chunk

Level 13 : Blinds 1,000/2,500, 2,500 ante
Benjamin Bruneteaux
Benjamin Bruneteaux

Cosmin Nica made it 5,000 from under the gun and Benjamin Bruneteaux called on the button. Alexane Najchaus also called from the big blind.

On the flop of 45K, Najchaus checked and Nica fired a bet of 6,000. Bruneteaux called, and Najchaus folded.

A K dropped on the turn and again Nica fired a bet, this time with a size of 15,000. Bruneteaux took his time but eventually called.

When the 3 came on the river, Nica elected to slow down and check, and Bruneteaux quickly checked back.

Nica showed J9 for just jack-high, and Bruneteaux's 1010 took down the pot.

Bogdan Tapu opened to 8,500 from middle position, and was faced with a three-bet to 25,000 by Lily Kiletto a couple of seats along. Action folded back to Tapu, who quickly moved all in for 50,000, with Kiletto making the snap-call.

Tapu was ahead in a race, and remained so after Kiletto whiffed the Q7364 runout.
